two types of external oil coolers passive and active.
passive coolers are coolers that just have the oil run thru it...usually mounted somewhere it can get a constant supply of air moving over it.
active cooler are pretty much the same. only difference is they have a fan on them . some may have a temp sensor and built in circuitry to trip on and off the fan accordingly - like how the engine fan works.
some may just have the fan wires coming out of it - and you connect to your engine fan.
so when the engine fan comes on...this also comes on.
active unit is better.
