Looking to get a small car, hatchback or sedan for between 150K-180K. It'll be a daily driver from Diego to Chaguanas for my wife but she wants something a little spirited with some good looks

Range $155K

There is a Polo Volk coming in July/August .

That is if you like Euro cars .

I have no problems with Euros, but I am a little skeptical when it comes to VW having heard first hand of issues with the Jetta and then reading other problems on here as well.

^^^
The Jetta is a problem automobile - even if purchased new.
Without getting too technical - It can stall in the middle of the night .
Transmission will lock up. I think VW fixed - not sure

Bora was great - then Jetta came - total disaster

So do not blame VW - They are amazing vehicles :D

Own a 2007 1.6 jetta , no transmission issues and it's very reliable, just don't like some of the plastic interior fittings.

What is the estimated tag price ?

Waiting for the New Polo - estimated $155K

Amarok coming in July - estimated $325K for the HighLine.

LSM getting a lot of business from TTPS :D .. Why ?

The Cruze should be around $229k with an initial launch/early bird discount of $20k thus reducing the price to an estimated $209k. The official launch day will confirm if this is a legit guess or not.

As for LSM getting a lot of business from the TTPS, I won't ask why as this is not a unique situation. The award of many vehicular tenders has gone to several competing dealerships for a range of vehicles to be added to the overall GORTT fleet. You can check this info on the CTB website where you have access to this info for free. Make sure and take the time to back to 2012/2013 and you would see LSM is not the only dealership getting tender awards.

IMHO, the Suzuki Vitara 2.4 4WD is one tough SUV and is no poser like many of the so called "SUVs" out there that are really a bunch of crossovers that are FWD and some with very simple AWD systems that are jokey to say the least. So to me those Zuki's are excellent assets to have in the fight of crime. They can go practically anywhere and has descent enough power to catch the sea of 1.5 roro vehicles on our nation's roads.

As for the gen1 Chevy Cruze LS, they're solid simple cars! Unlike the Suzuki which is a fully loaded vehicle, the TTPS got the basic LS trim. Not a very sophisticated car but with descent interior and trunk space. The 1.6 is lethargic imo but I suppose the suspension makes up for this shortcoming as it is strong. Maybe they got these cars cheap and LSM does have a huge service facility in Aranguez with plenty of space to accommodate large fleets for regular servicing. It could be several factors but LSM is not by any means a 'blue eyed' dealership, that honor imo belongs to no one else except TTTL. The amount of Fortuners, Prados, Land Cruisers and Land Cruiser 70 series they have in their fleet is astounding and those aren't cheap.

So true 007. Seen a grand vitara with a full complement of fully kitted officers run down an Ad wagon on the highway that broke through an escort and caught up to it shortly. The Grand vitara is small yet somewhat spacious and has decent power with a well built 4wd system. Getting you anywhere without much fuss

Zando, I got two bits of info:
1.4t tuned for super at 148hp and 245Nm torque or
1.4t tuned for premium at 153hp and 240Nm torque

I hope those units coming is tuned for the super but our fellow tuner friend EcoTune mentioned earlier that these turbo direct injected engines should really be getting premium so I'm thinking about long-term reliability. I hope some in-house Chevy techs would be present on the launch day as I have several technical questions to ask and do not wish to discuss this with sales people.

From my interactions with LSM's technical people, they are just as clueless as their sales people.

Why do turbo direct injection engines require higher RON than specified by the manufacturer?

Asked a salesguy, he said It using super and their brochure says 153hp, at least the one he sent me.

On the issue of type of fuel used, I did some research and got the following:

The Trax has the Opel A14NET LUJ/LUV engine which was 1364cc DOHC 16V ECOTEC DCVCP MPI unit putting out 138hp and 200Nm torque (220Nm on overboost) coupled with the GM hydramatic 6T40 transmission. In Australia and New Zealand this engine was tuned for 95RON. Here at home the 2016 Trax required premium but the 2017 model can now take super. Not sure if GM changed the tune of the engine specific to our market. It should be noted despite the international higher octane requirement, this older engine in the gen1 Cruze and Trax could have accepted 87AKI or regular petrol in the USA which converts to 91RON.

The 2017 gen2 Cruze has an Opel LE2 1399cc DOHC 16V ECOTEC DCVCP GDI unit putting out 153hp and 240Nm torque. In Australia the hp output is down 5 ponies to 148hp but the recommended fuel is now 91RON. In the USA, this same engine is tuned for 87AKI regular petrol which converts to the 91RON coupled to the 6T35 transmission which is supposedly an improvement over the 6T40.

On the launch day I will try to get my hands on the owner's manual of both the Trax turbo and Cruze turbo and see what the horse's mouth has to say on this as the final word for now.

If the Civic turbo can safely take our 91RON (as shown by fellow tuner drachaos a few pages back) then perhaps gone are the days when we hear turbo and automatically translate that into premium fuel only. There are tons of web articles supporting the use of premium grade fuels on small displacement turbocharged engines and a fair amount talking about even though the manufacturer says 87AKI or 91RON, you should try to put the premium octane fuel to improve engine performance in terms of reliability which translates to longevity, better fuel economy and maximum performance.

Thus far here is the local small displacement turbo engine fuel requirement summary:

VW Jetta 1.4TSI - 95RON
Nissan Juke 1.6T - 95RON
Ford Focus 1.0T 3-cylinder - 95RON
Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T - 91RON
Hyundai Veloster 1.6T - 91RON
Honda Civic 1.5T - 91RON

It could be possible our region gets diff engine codes from ROW which would have diff cooling systems, pistons, drivetrain ecu software catered for 3rd country.

Ideally fuel offers cooling..turbo engines produce extra heat and higher RON means less less prone to misfires which go un- noticed by average driver

Me personally will never use super in any turbo engine irregardless what manufacturer says...

Chevy Cruze turbo looks decent-ish. Sunroof leather reverse cam. Looks longer than the regular outgoing Cruze.

Coworker of mines bought an isuzu, manual... it did have some of the bling you dont want.

I think you can get a ford ranger real basic but it will still have some of what you dont want.

Why dont you check LSM for the mahindra? That should fit the bill.

I just got an email with the features of the "high spec" 2017 Cruze LTZ so here goes:

1.4L DOHC 16V ECOTEC DCVCP GDI-T (153hp and 240Nm torque)
Hydramatic 6T35 6-speed automatic with tiptronic
front and rear crumple zones
side impact door beams
rear child safety door locks
projector HID automatic headlights with front DRL's
rack and pinion crash deformable electric tilt/telescopic leather steering with audio, BT hands-free and cruise control interface
4 disc brakes with ABS, EBD, EBA, TCS, StabiliTrak DSC, TPMS
dual front and side impact airbags
automatic climate control AC system
6-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3/AUX/USB/BT stereo with 7" touchscreen and MyLink interface including smartphone integration
power locks with central locking
power windows with driver's side auto up and all windows auto down function
proximity key with push button start
rear parking sensors
rear vision camera
electric tilt/slide sunroof
225/45/17 performance all-season tyres wrapped on 17" 5-lug alloy rims
Estimated price: $209,000.

The mid-spec LT version comes with the above except:
Leather seats
leather wrapped steering wheel
auto climate control
sunroof
no auto headlights
Estimated price: $189,000.

The basic which is the LS trim is no longer offered. Thank God!

I must admit that I'm a bit dissapointed that the following features are not offered at least based on the sheet I saw:

powered driver's seat
front parking sensors
front headlamp washers
auto wipers
xenon HID's
rear LED tail-lamps
premium sound system with sub and amp
paddle shifters
rear A/C vents
mudguards
lip spoiler
18" rims
curtain airbags, torso airbags and knee airbags
remote start
blind spot monitoring
rear cross traffic alert
lane change assist
lane keep assist
forward collision alert
automatic emergency braking
smart cruise control
ventilated (heated/cooled) seats
auto dimming rear view mirror

The LTZ model in other markets have a lot more features than what we get. So far the Elantra, Ioniq and Cerato looks like it would school this 2017 "LTZ" Cruze in terms of features but maybe the power you get for that price makes up for the smaller knick knacks :|

NB. I'll update the list when I physically check the car myself to see what the LT and LTZ models really come with on July 8th.
