The Trax has the Opel A14NET LUJ/LUV engine which was 1364cc DOHC 16V ECOTEC DCVCP MPI unit putting out 138hp and 200Nm torque (220Nm on overboost) coupled with the GM hydramatic 6T40 transmission. In Australia and New Zealand this engine was tuned for 95RON. Here at home the 2016 Trax required premium but the 2017 model can now take super. Not sure if GM changed the tune of the engine specific to our market. It should be noted despite the international higher octane requirement, this older engine in the gen1 Cruze and Trax could have accepted 87AKI or regular petrol in the USA which converts to 91RON.
The 2017 gen2 Cruze has an Opel LE2 1399cc DOHC 16V ECOTEC DCVCP GDI unit putting out 153hp and 240Nm torque. In Australia the hp output is down 5 ponies to 148hp but the recommended fuel is now 91RON. In the USA, this same engine is tuned for 87AKI regular petrol which converts to the 91RON coupled to the 6T35 transmission which is supposedly an improvement over the 6T40.
On the launch day I will try to get my hands on the owner's manual of both the Trax turbo and Cruze turbo and see what the horse's mouth has to say on this as the final word for now.
If the Civic turbo can safely take our 91RON (as shown by fellow tuner drachaos a few pages back) then perhaps gone are the days when we hear turbo and automatically translate that into premium fuel only. There are tons of web articles supporting the use of premium grade fuels on small displacement turbocharged engines and a fair amount talking about even though the manufacturer says 87AKI or 91RON, you should try to put the premium octane fuel to improve engine performance in terms of reliability which translates to longevity, better fuel economy and maximum performance.
Thus far here is the local small displacement turbo engine fuel requirement summary:
VW Jetta 1.4TSI - 95RON
Nissan Juke 1.6T - 95RON
Ford Focus 1.0T 3-cylinder - 95RON
Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T - 91RON
Hyundai Veloster 1.6T - 91RON
Honda Civic 1.5T - 91RON
Don't forget the Tucson turbo, same engine as veloster, sales person said super...yea I keep asking them.

Won't be surprised if those dead horse 2.0 units are still here though. Anyway, I think the logic behind unique reps representing a brand is not a dealership choice. I think based on the agreement to sell a brand is to fulfill several criteria including, a unique showroom floor (not shared with other brands) meaning no partitions but separate facilities, separate sales and service people like a head of sales and head of service etc. they even have a policy not to share manufacturers logos on one sign board etc. could be different rules amongst dealerships but this is what I've gathered so far.
