At what price I remember asking about this a while ago and I think the number quoted was north of 200k.

That's for an automatic or manual transmission car?

Good stuff there arsenal! Do you have any idea what sort of flexibility in pricing potential customers may have at this time considering the change in ownership situation?

There are two models, one for $316,000 and the other for $354,000.

The differences are:
-Leather seats
-Power driver seat
-Heads up display
- Bose Sound system
-Power tailgate
-Daytime running lights
-Lane departure warning

Based on my enquiry in Early June 2019.

Quite a few customers seem to be trying to use the opportunity to extract supernormal discounts but the flexibility with the prices quoted seems standard given my interaction with reps.

Salespersons as expected seem uncertain with the ownership change.

Noted Arsenal.

Slacker83, the higher spec CX5 also has memory driver's seat, I think powered front passenger seat, forward collision alert and autonomous emergency braking.

On another note, do you all remember when a new vehicle loan can stretch to 5 yrs then they went on to 7 and 8 as of recent? Well then, its official, one major bank is offering 10 yr loans now to buy a new vehicle and many finance packages don't require a down-payment. 0% Down and payments for 10yrs or 120 months. LOL. Say you buy a new Kia at $200k. After financing it for 10yrs at 6%, you end up paying $266,400. and the market value on that car upon maturity of the loan would be what $35,000.? So you end up losing, $231,400. Is it worth it guys?

I saw the ten year loans as a luxury car package last year. Cars over 300k I think. Loans officer said some people preferred to stretch it out to maintain a lower DSR

I look at it this way where a car is something you buy cash. Your starter car should not be some expensive vehicle but rather something you build up to as you advance in life. I started off with a used $30,000.00 car by putting aside cash from my monthly income. As I moved up I saved more, sold that car for about $28,000 and bought another used car that was better, again cash. Eventually, I saved enough that I bought a brand new car in 2008 that I kept for 10 years and was able to sell that for over $70,000.00. I think too many people seek instant gratification that they got nice job, a degree or something they deem they should be rewarded for and simply self indulge too much and incur high cost on a depreciating asset that is not worth it other than being a status symbol. I would tell anyone buy a new car vs used but plan it out to avoid interest and buy a vehicle based on your needs vs image. Image only eats up good money. One of my friends bought a L200 and paid about $90,000. in interest (he also had to refinance), sold it recently and bought a new one to pay interest again when that money could have been put to better use but because he is now a manger he must have a new vehicle. IMO the only loan to take is for property and maybe education based on the field of study.

At the end of the day it's all about money management. Depending on your priorities and expenses you will choose the option you need.
But this isn't the forum for this discussion.

Anybody heard anything about any potential new hybrid options for sedans from local firms? Or we still just considering the Ioniq and the Niro?

I share the similar experience and opinions. However i rather do a short 3 year loan to cover a vehicle loan.

Financing is an interesting question.

Alot depends on depreciation in uncle sam they say in 10yrs a car is down to 10% (Depreciation goes like 20%yr 1 ... 15%yr 2 and Yr3) of its value the same doesnt exist in Trini today.

Buying a car and financing it over 10yrs I dont see how that would make sense unless you are getting some extremely low interest rates 2% it would make some sense but 5 or 6% you really got to be a complete idiot to be paying that for 10yrs you would be underwater (outstanding loan worth more than the car) in 2yrs.

For longer loans it would depend on the car but to my mind it would have to be something like a Toyota or Honda SUV that depreciates very slowly in market terms over time.

Most of the new cars in Trinidad dont excite me but that Suzuki Swift Turbo is talking to me. At 205k over 3yrs I think it would certainly depreciate rapidly compared to a SUV.

Would really like to know you guys thoughts.

PapaC,

Currently, there are 5 hybrids and 1 electric vehicle available for sale by the local authorized dealerships. They are:

Toyota Prius C
Hyundai Ioniq
Hyundai Ioniq EV
Kia Niro
Porsche Cayenne*
Porsche Panamera*

I know there were model changes on the Porsche's so I am not sure if the hybrid options have continued. A TTTL rep told me that it is possible to specially import the Prius and Camry Hybrids but it would not make economical sense to do so. Also, we may see a RAV4 2.0 Hybrid for sale soon so stay tuned (this is left to be seen). Lastly, I heard for obvious reasons, ANSA McAL refrained from hybrids to push out-dated CNG technology. Now that LDGTT has the rights to BMW, let's see where this goes in terms of offering us "premium" hybrid and electric options.
