The Korean cousins...
Last known price of the Sonata 2.0 was $319k and the Optima 2.0 was $303k. Only time will tell if we will get the replacement models with the 1.6T and thus lowering those prices due to less import taxes.

Massy won't lower the price ...

Tucson changed from 2.0 NA to 1.6 Turbo and had nil reduction in price.

Won't the cost price (cost per unit from Hyundai) of the vehicle be higher, which negates any savings to be had from duties/import taxes based on a reduction in displacement.

Yup you are right, there are some increases per unit especially in the introduction of an all new replacement model, however, the question is, is it sufficient enough to offset the decrease in MVT, Duty and VAT as a result of less cc?

But this is easy to calculate. If the price goes up by say $1,000. USD per unit then that is $7,000. TTD added to the showroom price. However the tax savings on a 1.6L vs a 2.0L would be more than a grand USD.

From a MVT only angle,
Hyundai Gamma 1591cc = $7,955.00 (@ $5. per cc)
Hyundai Nu 1999cc = $37,481.25 (@ $18.75 per cc)

And that's just MVT. The variance is also noticeable with Duty and VAT. All things being equal, a Sonata/Optima 1.6T should in theory be cheaper than the outgoing 2.0 models.

Of course I stand to be corrected.

On that note, can anyone say what are the duties for these engine size segments? Last i heard it was 25% between 35%, but I think these were increased.

1599cc and under
1600cc to 1799cc
1800cc to 1999cc
2000cc to 2399cc

Dealers not reducing prices from my sources on the inside ... They gonna see how this month plays out before they consider clearance sales.

So Fellars/Gals let them go hungry for one more month and then them prices likely to fall fast cause its simple maths ... They running out of space to store vehicles and their operating costs have not reduced.

Facelift (New) Hyundai Santa Fe. Retaining same powertrains as before but will also add Hybrid and Plug In Hybrid 1.6T engine just like its sibling the new Sorento. Would be interesting to see if Massy brings in the Hybrid versions and the price they would call for it. Same for Southern Sales and those hybrid Sorentos.

Great observation ... but left to be seen.
And more so, if we do get them, note the price difference mainly because there should be no MVT and VAT.

I think the general consensus on prices based on feedback ITT, is that with every new iteration of a model, there is a general price increase, even it if the cc goes down.

A $600k Korean product is something I cannot fathom but we're already there. If I'm going that high, it must have a Lexus RX300 badge at the back. Good luck guys on your Santa Fe and Sorento speculations.

I guess its face lift week. The 2.8 engine sees a healthy bump in power 201 hp and 500Nm torque now. The torque is available a little lower in the rpm now as well. Improvements to the suspension was also made. Same goes for the Fortuner.

I would have to agree with you on that 600k for Hyundai/ Kia vehicle especially SUV is over doing it has no right to be in those price ranges. The very concept of those brands was to give great features and amenities for an affordable price in order to be very competitive against other similar brands. If Massy and SS brings the hybrids in those SUVs and price them similarly to the non hybrid versions it would further consolidate what persons have been saying in this forum concerning STEALERSHIPS. *dealerships my bad

It appears they are stealerships for both used and new vehicles. Look at this Sonata below, this was used internally at Massy as a corporate car for an executive. Back in February, it was listed for $170k. 4 months later, post covid (and even this term is questionable), the price went up to $175k as per list (#177). Resale gone up by $5k lol

At 600k for suv... I was putting the difference and trying the Fortuner. Idk if I'd ever consider owning a Korean vehicle. Drove quite a few of my company's vehicles but to say own one...eh eh

Bro and about that Fortuner, you've got to add another $224k to that $600k to get one and wait for it because it's not readily available in stock anymore for obvious reasons.

I remember back in 2005 when they first came to T&T, a Fortuner was $375k. 15yrs later, the price increased by $449k. That's an increase of $29,933. a year.

For reference, a Prado back in 2003 was $450k. Today the fully loaded Prado VX-L is $1,070k. In 17 years, the price jumped up by $620k which works out to be $36,471. a year.

A fully loaded CRV in 2003 was $255k. Today that line successor is $410k an increase of $155k in 17 years. This works out to be an increase of $9,118. per year, which is not bad compared to the above.

A fully loaded Mazda 3 in 2004 was $155k. Today, 16 years later its $238k. A jump of $83k or $5,187.50 per year.

The lowest I have right now has to be the Nissan Sentra Super Saloon B14 with sunroof which was $128k back in 1998. Today, a Sentra with leather seats is $197k, a jump of $69k or $3,137. per year. Amazing!

I know its different classes of vehicles but just something to put into perspective.

I would never buy a diesel SUV in T&T, not with that garbage fuel in my tank and engine, sorry. Instead, I might quicker head to HSM in Chase Village and get myself either a white or black Prado TX-L 2.7 petrol which is $860-870k.

That might be the better bet over a $824k diesel Fortuner.

I saw David O'Brien with his white Volvo XC90 T6 driving above the posted speed limit for the QPS just days ago. I wonder if he as well as Mr Warner are affected? I wonder who these 10 executives are? For now, I'll use the word, 'alleged'.

Thank you Colm Imbert...

Some valuable information here. Shows the utterly ridiculous increases in vehicle prices over the years. Wonder what justifies that the bigger engines, the increase in cost prices with every new model or according to those Stealerships *dealerships the "Way more" features compared to previous gen  . I cant see myself buying a diesel vehicle in this country unless its one of those pickups other. The only thing with that gas powered Prado is thr lack of oomf compared to the diesel version.

Lol 13.9s to 100kmph is slow I agree. But saving $200k plus engine headache to reach 100kmph in a traffic light drag slower by 2.2s is worth it, especially with the demerit points system in effect. Besides, those Toyota 2TR-FE's are known for legendary reliability. A 1KD-FTV is a good diesel engine to begin with but when batting against a proven also built by Toyota engine, then hard luck for 1KD.

Went on HSM a while ago and saw a lovely specced Prado for only 850k. Like you said considering great reliability of the gas engine paired with no worries of fuel quality are good trades. Although what about the local Prado's feature list. Can it compare to examples from places like HSM etc in that regard.
