Last known price of the Sonata 2.0 was $319k and the Optima 2.0 was $303k. Only time will tell if we will get the replacement models with the 1.6T and thus lowering those prices due to less import taxes.
agent007 wrote:Yup you are right, there are some increases per unit especially in the introduction of an all new replacement model, however, the question is, is it sufficient enough to offset the decrease in MVT, Duty and VAT as a result of less cc?
But this is easy to calculate. If the price goes up by say $1,000. USD per unit then that is $7,000. TTD added to the showroom price. However the tax savings on a 1.6L vs a 2.0L would be more than a grand USD.
From a MVT only angle,
Hyundai Gamma 1591cc = $7,955.00 (@ $5. per cc)
Hyundai Nu 1999cc = $37,481.25 (@ $18.75 per cc)
And that's just MVT. The variance is also noticeable with Duty and VAT. All things being equal, a Sonata/Optima 1.6T should in theory be cheaper than the outgoing 2.0 models.
Of course I stand to be corrected.

Would be interesting to see if Massy brings in the Hybrid versions and the price they would call for it. Same for Southern Sales and those hybrid Sorentos.

A $600k Korean product is something I cannot fathom but we're already there. If I'm going that high, it must have a Lexus RX300 badge at the back. Good luck guys on your Santa Fe and Sorento speculations.

Back in February, it was listed for $170k. 4 months later, post covid (and even this term is questionable), the price went up to $175k as per list (#177). Resale gone up by $5k lol20200207_112540.jpeg

agent007 wrote:Bro and about that Fortuner, you've got to add another $224k to that $600k to get one and wait for it because it's not readily available in stock anymore for obvious reasons.
I remember back in 2005 when they first came to T&T, a Fortuner was $375k. 15yrs later, the price increased by $449k. That's an increase of $29,933. a year.
For reference, a Prado back in 2003 was $450k. Today the fully loaded Prado VX-L is $1,070k. In 17 years, the price jumped up by $620k which works out to be $36,471. a year.
A fully loaded CRV in 2003 was $255k. Today that line successor is $410k an increase of $155k in 17 years. This works out to be an increase of $9,118. per year, which is not bad compared to the above.
A fully loaded Mazda 3 in 2004 was $155k. Today, 16 years later its $238k. A jump of $83k or $5,187.50 per year.
The lowest I have right now has to be the Nissan Sentra Super Saloon B14 with sunroof which was $128k back in 1998. Today, a Sentra with leather seats is $197k, a jump of $69k or $3,137. per year. Amazing!
I know its different classes of vehicles but just something to put into perspective.
I would never buy a diesel SUV in T&T, not with that garbage fuel in my tank and engine, sorry. Instead, I might quicker head to HSM in Chase Village and get myself either a white or black Prado TX-L 2.7 petrol which is $860-870k.
That might be the better bet over a $824k diesel Fortuner.
