I think you have forgotten that at that time period the fuel was leaded. As lead doesn't really burn it just deposits on injectors and sensors causing problems. This required physical cleaning. Carbs were definitely easier to service when leaded fuel was being used.
The sales rep might have wanted to sell vehicles but the problems at the time were real as unleaded was introduced around that time as well... And who wanted to pay more for fuel.
Parts weren't as easily accessible at that time... Might have had to pay a pound and a crown to get replacements.
Early adopters will definitely feel the hurt

i wonder if this is a legit rs4? could also be a v6 supercharged s4 someone trying to pass off an as rs4. but i cannot be sure.
in my humble travels i've only seen one or two legit S5s and S4s and one S3 in trini. never an rs model.
