belalegosi's world.

Postby belalegosi » April 29th, 2014, 6:48 pm

I'm not good at keeping logs at all, my tendency on other forums is just to post pictures as updates. This would be no different.

Here's currently what's in the garage....

1998 Dodge Neon RT coupe - Former daily driver and show car, now "race car".
Most common question I get: Why a neon?
I do what I want. 8-)
No turbo... because too easy.

Summary of mods:
2.4l motor (SRT4), Crower Stg4 cams, forged internals, ~11:1 comp, things
Nitrous (Not sure yet if I'm going to run it)
Water meth
Full standalone EMS (Megasquirt) - Built and tuned by me
Rebuilt transmission with modified OBX lsd
Every bolt-on possible
BC coilovers, Eibach 19mm sway bar rear, Suspension Technique 25mm sway bar front.
Prothane bushings everywhere.
Solid engine mounts.
Other things I don't remember.

Here's pics from older to newer. The car has gone through A LOT of iterations of the last couple years as I tried different things and made numerous mistakes.
This year I think I should have a solid setup engine/trans/suspension wise.
Also, this year I have my OWN garage. I've been building cars in other people's driveway the last couple years. You can say I'm growing up

Shooting for 12s NA! :D

2006 Subaru Forester XT limited - The overly done daily driver/lesbo wagon!

Summary of mods:
2.5L motor, forged internals.
Blouch Dominator 2.5 XTR turbo
4EAT with IPT 3200rpm high stall
RCE tarmac 2 coilovers
2004 STI suspension conversion
Subaru 4pot/2pot brakes, DBA rotors, endless pads.
Bolts ons and other crap.

Thanks.

My very first motor rebuild. New everything. Crane 14 cams, built head, stock rebuild bottom end.
Made a mistake and didnt gap the rings. Rings consequently never seated properly. Whoops. Newb.

Image

First time trying to start it.
Image

When I got rid of the 2.0l and swapped in the 2.4 motor. Yes it was a cold, cold time to be doing a motor swap
Image

Sometime in 2012 when I caught a whim and decided late night to swap my crane 12 cams to my crane 18 cams.
Image

The count to date on the different cam shafts I've had in this car are:
Crane 12
Crane 14
Crane 18
Crower Stage 3
Crower Stage 4 (Current)

I don't have any recent pictures of the engine bay. I can snap a few when I get home.
No show quality engine bay because I daily drove the thing all year all through college and graduate school.

I'm no longer in school now and have a bigger budget sooo....

Here's my post winter cleaning of my brakes/suspension on the forester.
You can see the cobb sway bars and endless brake lines that I forgot to mention.

Yea they are. I fit more comfortably in the neon than in my forester.
Though I prefer the seating in for forester for cruising.
The neon fits better for faster pedal action

It also helps I have these for the neon

loving the sticker bomb application
Nice to see you reupholstered the rear seats to match. Dad did that 34 years ago when he had the Recaros installed in the Vauxhall.....right now I'm trying to find Recaro Nardo Black to fix some tears...any ideas where I can check outline for a couple yards?

I can check some of the local performance shops around here and see if they can source it.

cool I'd appreciate it. I had contacted recaro, and they said they'd forward me a list of US suppliers, but then they never responded.

I checked with my contacts MAP and they couldn't source it.
If Recaro gives you any suppliers in MN I can try to help out.

So back on track, plans changed slightly. I'm gonna try to get two motors built and installed before MAP's proving grounds in June.

Motor #1 - Full rebuild, stock 2.0l. Gonna try to hit 150+whp with ONLY stock parts. (Factory is 150hp@ crank).
Parts in back of forester on way to a friends place to help me spec the block. Also modded spindles for big brake swap. More details on that later lol
Image

Tuesday I decided to take the "long" way home. Needless to say I smoked whats left of the rear brake pads. No biggie... had new pads on the shelf ready to go so swapped em when I got home!
Image

Image

I also started retuning the Forester. Currently its conservatively at 291whp. It's my first real go at MAF tuning. The more I dig into it.. the more I appreciate Speed Density.
Shooting for a modest 350whp/350wtq out of this turbo. Not going to push it (yet?).

Here's a quick update
About a month ago I blew up the 4eat in the Subaru road racing in Chicago

A closer look

So I had to trailer it back to MN

I'm currently working on a full 04 STI 6 speed and brembo swap. I'm done with the auto.

As for the neon I got the stock motor built and in the car. Just waiting for the radiator to come in so I can break it in

Honed

Sealing bedplate

Short block assembled

Head is on. At this point I was pretty tired/intoxicated. So no more pics.

Fast forward to a rainy day. Motor and trans in
Image

Couldn't find my oil cap at the time. So I improvised
Image

Subaru blowing up ruined my plans for this year. So my high comp motor build isn't gonna happen till next year.

Actually its the trans case that shattered.

Anyways progress has been slow on car stuff. I barely find time to work on it anymore :|
Brembos are out being powder coated right now.
All that is left really is the wiring. I already have the wiring drawn out so I know what I'm gonna do.

If all goes well, I should be able to retain the Cruise Control and ABS functionality.
