Toyota Axio Transmission Problem Fact or Fabricated

Postby area6 » October 29th, 2014, 8:09 am

Morning Tuners right now we are . in the process of looking for two vehicles and the best priced out there I have seen so far is the Toyota Axio and Mazda 3 , We aren't considering the Tida because of it being very light after a certain speed on the road, but as the post says

We are looking to purchase the Toyota Axio but I have heard and reviewed online that the Axio CVT transmission gives a lot of problems, can anyone confirm this.

And also, anyone knows where sells corollas foreign used as well.

The Corolla from TTTL I have not seen that on the F/U market (maybe due to it's an export car).
The Corolla Altis and Axio are JDM models so thats why we have them here.

As for the Tiida being "too light at high speeds" the speed limit is 80km/h and handles very well at that speed.

With regards to the Axio CVT transmission, they do not fail as soon as you put the car in drive.
Its all about mileage and seeing that most foreign used dealers "roll back mileage" you will not be sure on how long you have before failure.
All the Axio transmissions that we have had experience with so far has failed after 175,000 kms and some as far as 200,000 kms.
How I know this? We service cars for some dealers prior to it being registered.
The ones that failed most times did so right after clearing from port and we were able to see the mileage on the marker sticker on engine.

The dash had already been "rolled back" from Japan as this is the arrangement when the cars are being sold.

My advice, just inspect carefully when buying.

Poor maintenance is d reason behind most of those failures, change fluid asap after purchase

Changing d trans fluid is difficult cause u hv to remove the entire transmission oil pan since there's no drain plug....transmission seal has to be changed as well, not sure where u getting tht to buy but d axio popular so it shud be available locally

Next is d actual fluid... use only Toyota CVT fluid in there
Filterpro or bigz o one ah dem does sell it on d forum by d gallon for bout $600 I tink

Worst case scenario is d tranny shot and u'll need to get a foreign used one, which ain't cheap but it's available

Thank you very much because what you have described is what I heard from most people about the transmission failing at high mileage, I know of two incidents where they actyally serviced there transmission and it still failed bit they are very good cars regardless
