Originally called The Supercar Race in the mid-2000s, this street class exhibition race allowed novice and mixed-level drivers using road cars to have exposure to circuit racing and provided entertainment for the crowds between regular races.
Now accurately renamed SuperStreet Intermediate Racing Series, this now structured class brings experienced amateur-level drivers closer to the standards required for pro-level Group 1-4 circuit racing, over 1-2 years in a track-safe environment. Development is already underway in the areas of intermediate racing driver training, track rules and etiquette, preparation for reliability and safety, and basic sponsorship management.
Four classes were established (SS 1-4) from the large grey area that constitutes the various groups of tuned cars and drivers, according to engine size, power levels, drivetrain and driver ability. Additional classes for exotics, one-make groups or spec-circuit cars are also accommodated. Briefing, practice, time attack laps and multi-car class racing are all part of the standard Racing event. Training day events focus on theory and instructor-assisted practice sessions.
