WTK: Transferring and Insuring older vehicles

Postby superdude_1130 » May 1st, 2016, 1:20 am

Hey guys,

I'd really like to know if I would encounter problems when transferring or insuring an older vehicle?

The vehicle in question is a 280zx (approx DOM - 1982).

Will I have any problems? If so, what problems will they be?

Thanks a lot in advance :drinking:

Transferring, NO

As long as the registered owner is selling the vehicle, and he/she has 2 valid forms of ID, then transferring shouldnt be a problem.

As for insurance, you should ensure you will get that before before buying the vehicle.
A lot of companies fuss to insure 2door vehicles, adding age to equation may cause some more concerns.

Thanks KRONIK. Do you know any companies that will insure it for sure?

That will depend on you age, how long you driving, how many accident claims you have had and various other factors.

You may need to check a few places before you get a positive response.
Your 2 best options are:
-your current insurance company
-motor one

ICWI insured my zx. Call the head office to find out. Some of the branches may not want to insure it.
Motor one and capital both refused to insure it. Was insured with motor one before I purchased it.

Thanks KRONIK and Dave-ve. My current insurance company said that the vehicle must be in good shape which I found to be kinda open ended and vague. But I checked ICWI, well at least their online quote, and got an average premium of just under $2200 with roadside assistance.

Dave-ve, did you check out their online quote before going with them??? If so, did the premium vary from the quote?

Didn't use the online quote. Got one from the head office. I'm paying about 2k a year with roadside assistance.
