Financing options for importing a vehicle

Postby shandyman » October 11th, 2016, 11:59 am

Are there any financial institutions that will finance an individual importing a Roro vehicle? For example, a vehicle will cost $155,000 landed inclusive of taxes. Are there any financial institutions that will finance this loan even though the vehicle is physically located in Japan?

as an individual it depends on your relationship with your bank, you might have to take a loan and buy it afterwards, but if you're using the vehicle as the collateral to secure the loan ( in addition to the down payment) it's unlikely they will finance it unless you're importing via a recognised dealer

Agreed. Most financial institutions will give loans (unsecured) for vacations, medical reasons etc. But unless you have a great relationship with you bank, I highly doubt that they will give an unsecured loan for $100k+. Going through a dealer will mean that you will have to pay the cost of the vehicle + their commission (whatever that might be). Didn't think that financial institutions would finance a vehicle being imported, but was just asking out of curiosity.
