Local resale value of vehicles

Postby richardxsingh » August 14th, 2017, 7:47 pm

How does Mazda resale value compared to others?
If Toyota is #1 for resale value what is considered #2?

3. Nissan
4. Subaru
5. Mitsubishi
6. Mazda/Isuzu/Suzuki
7. Hyundai/Kia/Ford/Chevrolet/Volkswagen
8. Mercedes Benz/BMW/Porsche
9. Audi
10. Mini
11. Land Rover/Jaguar/Jeep/Volvo
12. Acura/Infiniti
13. Daihatsu
14. Fiat/Skoda/SsangYong
15. Great Wall/DFM/Foton/JAC/ZX Auto/Geely
16. Renault/Peugeot/Opel/Vauxhall/Chrysler/Dodge/Lincoln/Mercury/Cadillac/Hummer
17. Rover/MG/Seat/Citroen/Saab/Proton/Holden
18. Lada/Tata/Asia Motors/Hillman/Daewoo/Iveco/Singer

Not sure about:
Ferrari/Lamborghini/Aston Martin/Maserati/Rolls Royce/Bentley/Lotus/Alfa Romeo and Tesla

Did not mention Spyker, Koenigsegg, Bugatti, TVR, Dacia, Fisker, Lancia, Saleen, Saturn, Oldsmobile, GMC, Geo, Eagle, Plymouth, AMC and Hindustan as I never saw those brands in T&T before.

What are your thoughts?

I still don't think Honda has more resale value as a Nissan.

For each price bracket, they don't. But only in Trinidad as the influx of the nissan econoboxes affected the market prices. Supply and demand and well monkey see....

But for the economy honda vs the economy nissans, the honda is the better built and performing car....

Im not saying Honda don't make good cars. It is just the reality of parts and supply. Someone will quicker grab a Nissan. For example my neighbour has his Es8 for sale months now for 50k he has reached 38k and I sold my Nissan 5 days after I put it up for sale and got my price 8-)

I didnt want to complicate it...but resale value could be considered in more than one way as illustrated with the nissan example. Resale value could be considered as how much you will get back on your investment (assuming it is sold) and/or could be considered as how fast/easily it can be sold. I think we should stick to actual return ($$$) on investment which I believe is what Agent007 did.

Resale is basically the return on the initial investment.

Locally though, we see a lot of people who value their car a lot more than the market value for said car. Trini buying habits is that we always looking for a deal. Highly unlikely, a car being sold above market value going to be sold quickly but there are a few exceptions.

Singh, 50k for an es8 is ridiculous. Market value for them is 25k up to about 45k for the pristine ones. Hell, I bought one for 17k a few years ago. Issue isnt the car, it's the price!

I always wonder what criteria motor critic uses when doing a valuation. Then again these things are so subjective.

Other considerations:
- 1. Genuine mileage
- 2. Maintenance (dealer maintained is always a plus and helps to determine if mileage was tampered with. That's something you don't get with RoRo).
-3. How the vehicle was driven in general will determine the condition of the suspension, steering rack etc.
-4. Electronics and electrical systems esp if it's a European vehicle.
-5. Year of manufacture vs year of registration.
