look on line, there is a "cone test" that was given and a few pickups were tested including the Toyota Hilux.
It was an important safety test. See for yourself

You could never go wrong with toyota bro, i have two hilux one is over 20 years and the other one is 10 years and no issues, never ever changed shocks or touch the engine. The one that i have for 10 years doing about 275kilos, when it was purchased from toyota i also purchased a gallon of coolant and i still have 1/4 gallon.

It boils down to personal preference if u ask me... both vehicles selling for years now an still sellin today.. each wud have its pros and cons... but how you maintain and treat the vehicle determins what u get in return... if i had to choose.. toyota... but i still dont mind havin a mazda...
my 2 cents..

Hilux overrated and over priced. Yea, they are good, but that does not mean mazda, ford or mitsubishi bad. They are all just as good. The same thing you do with a toyota you can do with other pickups. If you want to beat the thing to a pulp and dont maintain it, well then you have better chance to sell it after you done if its a toyota, but thats all that there is to it basically. My bt50 doing 150,000 km. All i changed was oil, timing belt thermostat, coolant and brakes, all done at recommended intervals. People swear by toyota, why? Any vehicle you have will last a lifetime if you take care of the thing like how the manufacturer says to. Toyotas have their fair share of problems, and i guarantee you, they are not cheap to fix.

Toyota - 6th Generation and below dont do yourself da wickedness and buy anything after.. is just name after the 6th gen hilux.

Mada BT-50 2008-2012 Model- has one doing over 200 000km 4x4 and just service on time and no issues... not the best ride though. i off road almost every weekend work purposes. changed clutch cylinder/and repaired ac once.
i cannot attest the newer BT 50. also the new np300 is remarkable features/price/power also has one.

I think the Madza is an excellent option. However it comes down to how well and how regular you do maintenance.

I own Hilux 2011 with 200,000 km ...use only original parts, and Schaffer Oil products engine and transmission. I still get over 700 km per fill up. I think it back to basics service on time based on manufacturer specs.. most vehicles will last you a good time.
