There’s an old saying that goes ‘some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant’. That was how many competitors must have felt on May 16, when Creative Auto Recreational Sports (CARS) had their third Solodex championship event for 2010.
A deceptively simple course was presented on the day, but with quite a few DNFs (did not finish correctly), there was definitely more complexity than some had anticipated.
As always, the rule of taking the first run easy and getting a clean finish was the best approach. This certainly worked for Peter Arindell, who improved his time with each successive run, to comfortably win the ES class, leaving Rudi Singh and Genevieve Singh-Nath fighting for second. It ultimately ended in a Suzuki 1-2 for Peter and Gen.
Devi Nath, running Genevieve’s car in the faster ESP class (using stickier tyres) once again sailed to an easy victory, earning Suzuki another 1-2 victory, with Christopher Ramnath in his Suzuki Ignis earning a hard fought second place.
The other highly contested class was EP. Amir Hosein and his giant-slaying Suzuki Ignis fought hard against Dr. mark Williams in his Mitsubishi Evo 6, right down to the final run. In the end, Dr. Williams pulled out all the stops and won by nearly 1.5 seconds over Amir. Rounding off the top three was Shaun Mohamed in his Toyota powered Locost Seven.
In the Open and EPR classes, a pair of Mitsubishi Evo 8s ruled the roost, with the Open Class’s Daemian Mahabir took the win, and the fastest time of the day. Kevon Ramjohn took the top position in EPR.
In the SS class, Darrel Ali took the win in his Honda Civic over the shared Mazda MX3 of Vishnu Charran and Reyos Seebaran. It was rumoured that Reyos came in third behind Vishnu due to a mysterious weight penalty.
Rounding out the classes was the HS class, won by Joey Ramdeo in his Nissan B14 Sentra, over a hard charging Kurt Pyke in his Vauxhall Callaloo Toco Magic Suspension Spannerman Viva Special.
With the best four of a possible six events counting towards the championship, things are heating up now. Solodex IV promises to be one with more tension than ever.
