Competition Prizes for 1'st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Postby wagonrunner » March 24th, 2014, 4:22 pm

In 2007 when I was head of dex, prizes (trophies) were allotted as such.

Sometime when Vishnu was head of dex, i remember the vote allowing classes to be constituted by just two entrants allowing for a 1st place trophy there.
2nd place required four. and third place required six.

Other the past few years, I've noticed 1'st and 2nd place trophies being given out in class of three, in one case even two entrants.
And the stance taken is third place trophies are too costly (even when more than six people entered the class).
so 6+ entries cannot pay for three trophies, but 3 entries can pay for two.

Please indicate your opinion of how those prizes / trophies should be awarded by using the poll. Thanks.

the rules as stated, are fine imo.....as you probably realized, problems arose when the rules were forgotten...I've seen rookie medals given out for 3rd already, with no reference to rules, but you know how it goes sometimes

I look forward to the days of trophies with sponsored bags of car products.

As for trophies I think the rookie medals cld be cancelled to save on cost.

there used to be days of sponsored trophies and bags of corporate goodies....not always sustainable. During times of 15-20 competitors, competitors (primarily Castrol) saw less and less value in dex...

This is interesting. So since you no longer qualify for a rookie medal, they shouldn't be encouraged via medals using the same criteria as the trophies?

And yet you haven't returned ALL the awards you got from the club, if any, since you don't feel the need for them apparently (rookie and competition). :poke:

see how quickly people lose touch with what's important to members / competitors?
People always forget, rookies are who ultimately sustain the club

im fine with the 2 - 4 - 6 arrangement

but on a different note .... how about getting back your name on the trophy considering trophies aren't given out on the competition day?

I've actually asked classic awards that, and waiting on pricing to present to the rest of the exec.

Well I wasnt saying they should not be encouraged. If cost is a factor along with encouraging rookies, then give the rookies the trophies and just points to competitors. Im sure we as competitors dont have a need for trophies if it means putting the club into a further cost and possibly a loss at events.

P.s I was there long before the implementation of rookie class. And never went into ne1/2 as I choose to jump into class and box it out with the veterans.

trying to follow the logic,
The club is usually at a loss at events of late.
But how does club make profit? entrants right? and the club has a rule that says if enough entrants are there in a class, the club can pay for their trophies. (guess who paid for it).

But instead don't give out the deserved trophies and medals............... you'd expect your entrants revenue to be the same / less / more?

The key to sustainability has always been numbers. There must be a break even target number. I would be willing to pay an extra $100 for a tent if it helped the club. That's just $50 more per person of you share a tent

ok i understand you point that my stance on no trophies for competitor wont be the same as others but i really think that as members we should try to find ways to increase solodex's position and numbers/financial sustainability.

would the financials of the club be available to members for suggestions to be made. not me but all interested members.

i don't even know if the head of finance checks the forums anymore. I've requested such for each event gone which is supposed to be done (according to the constitution), and still waiting.
