Re: Autocross 2 - 6th April 2014

Postby iDynamic » April 7th, 2014, 3:39 pm

As a first time driver i really enjoyed the event however the way i was classed was a bit confusing to me also to my disadvantage .

Im running a stock car with stock suspension, 2 standard (preload adjustable only) coilovers in the rear, around 99hp NA with 2700 lbs of weight. However i am up against turbo charged cars lighter than mine and much faster around the 250 hp and possibly close to or over the 300 hp range in my class .

Can someone explain to me how this works ? im in SS class btw

Thanks

i officially knocked down more cones on Sunday than i have in three years of autocross. wasn't to happy with the course but it really tested your skills of controlled braking and corner exit speed when the rain came down. was still a wonderful day of racing and good friends...

There are no cars in ss that are 250-300 whp .That would be More an EP-EPR or Open depending on mod points , PTW ratio based on dyno and weighing for you base class. You can go to carstt.com for a breakdown of the class structure.

Amir, at the time of scrutineering he would not have known what ss was so probably would not have queried it. Was there an ES class constituted this event?

I really had no idea until I realized almost everyone in my class running low 70s lap time with turbo charged engines , no interior cars etc .When I'm stock running close to 90s lap time, here is my dyno sheet from 99hp

Classing taken from the site :

so I just calculated it 2700/102 (lbs/hp) = 26.4 which from the class list = HS but they put me in SS :/

People thought my car had some type of magic that would make me win even if I was in open class.

Until they saw me drive.

Ya need to add 15% for the drivetrain loss so it ends up at around 23:1 which is ES. Thing is that without proof the people classifying on the spot are at a big disadvantage. How are they supposed to know your car is making 100hp or 170? The rules say they can assign a class once you don't come to the dyno day. I don't know if they can make it retroactive but maybe they can bend a little.

Good event CARS, thanks for all the hard work in putting it on and making it a success.

This event was the first time the ignis has come 4th with my best attempt on all 6 runs, got a proper beating from those EP guys. Hopefully I can catch you guys before the year ends.

^^ Was wondering what was going on with you on Sunday.

Competition was tight in EP though.

Well, should have been classes as ES or maybe ESP depending on modifications. Was there an ES class and ESP class for this event?

That "thing" and it's "driver" did very well on Sunday.
You clocked what, 77.*** as your fastest time?

That great, I trying hard not to loose it at the 360 had me a bit slower than usual.

Yea bro I was at dyno day I think they just looked at the car and automatically made an estimation on the spot by assumption because I didn't know that I would have to print my dyno sheet to prove I'm not turbo charged with x amount of hp etc
