John and Mike managed 2nd place overall, finishing almost a minute back of Trivino. So to summarize:
- Neither driver nor co-driver speaks a word of Spanish
- Saw their car for the first time 3 hours before the first stage (due to a customs issue)
- Only allowed to recce each of the 4 stages twice
- Rally was at 2200m above sea level
- Trivino was on his home course
- Lost their intercom on the morning stages
- Lost their service crew before the first service break
- Fan stopped working on stage 5
- Limped through stage 6 before making service break before stage 7
- Won stage 7 (28km)
All that and they managed 2nd behind a world ranked WRC driver, who has been racing at the top level since 2002, making his debut in WRC Spain.
A huge success for the Caribbean Team on their first round of the NACAM Rally Championship.
Q: John this Rally was obviously very tough, but what do you think of your chances going forward to Round 2?
A: 'I think we have the speed to stay with Ricardo (Trivino). So when we go onto neutral ground its going to be interesting. I am really happy for the finish and now a lot of people are asking me about Rallying in Trinidad, and if everyone is as fast as us.
At least now Mexico Rallying now knows what we have in Trinidad and where Trinidad is in terms of quality of drivers.

And then arrange our own special function, but tell him he cannot speak for more than 30 minutes.
