TTRC High Speed Stages #1 (Sunday) 24/02/13

Postby sio » February 13th, 2013, 8:20 am

TTRC High Speed Stages Champion Event #1, 2013
This year we are starting with a stage that will put the teams to the test. The only time we have used this stage was in Rally Trinidad 2008. It’s a dynamic stage with many surface changes, high speed corners and a couple of small jumps. It will be a great pre-Rally Trinidad 13 stage. There are great viewing and liming points for the fans and it’s also easy to find.
Bring the family, walk with your cooler be ready for the dust and action.

Talking too much, he did not read the full script!
But seriously hope that it can be put back together for Rally Trinidad in 4 weeks time.

Hey guys,

Just a quick thanks to how the situation was handled yesterday from all the officials, marshals and spectators. I am sure the accident looked bad from the outside and people would obviously panic at the possibility of us being hurt. Thankfully all safety systems did their job. The cage held firm and you can see the driver/co-driver area was not compromised in any way. Within seconds of us settling it seemed there were already people rolling us back over so we could exit the car. I managed to shut the engine off while we were still on our side, and thankfully there was no risk of fire. Apparently only one competitor was red flagged and we were able to restart the Rally within about 10-15min, without even losing a stage in the day.

Obviously accidents like these are part of our sport but the main thing is that we are able to walk away from it and go again. I was wearing a HANS device and i can happily report that i have not experienced so much as a stiff neck or any other soreness this morning. Safety is paramount and i can only advise anyone rallying or in any other motorsport to invest in one. You only need to have use for it once to justify it's purchase.

Won't talk too much about how the accident happened, but for the most part we should have had that corner pacenoted with a little more detail. We accelerated a bit too early when the corner continued and tightened up before the straight. The car drifted offline and unfortunately for us it was one of those places where there was no room for error.

We will see what can be done before Rally Trinidad, but it's going to be tough. Thanks again for all the people who have called and messaged to check on us. See you all in March for Rally Trinidad?
