RALLY TOBAGO 2014 POSTPONED
Kindly be advised that Rally Tobago 2014 has been postponed until further notice.
Essentially the availability of stages location has been one of the key issues affecting the Rally. Namely, the Courland Estate stage, that we have always used, is still in its construction phase, and we have not been given permission to use the area. There have been a number of alternative choices for stages that the Executive has scouted, but most have turned out to be private land and difficult to get permission for.
At this point our only guaranteed stage was a short 1.5-2.5km stage around the Dwight Yorke Stadium which, despite the great spectator viewpoint, we thought that this would not be fitting as the final leg of the 2014 Championship Season. Additionally a significant portion of this stage has recently been paved and if rain prevails, the remaining land space will become impassable resulting in a Tarmac car park event of 0.70 km.
Considering the fact that there are still several teams battling for the 2WD Championship, as well as numerous class awards still undecided, we thought the best decision is to have Rally Finale in Trinidad at the Reform stage.
Officially the Tobago House of Assembly is in full support of Rally Tobago, conceptually and financially. However we are working with them closely to educate the relevant authorities on what we require in terms of stage length and characteristics. At the end of the day we have an obligation to the members to deliver not only an entertaining weekend in Tobago but also a competitive one.
As usual we will keep you updated as to what our plans are for this Rally moving forward as it is postponed not cancelled. We also acknowledge that some you have already made travel plans and we wish to express our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences caused, however we assure you that this is the best decision given the current circumstances.
