Product Review - Stinger Battery

Postby sinnas » May 11th, 2007, 11:42 am

Model - Stinger SPV35 Dry cell (made for Hondas and Acuras but can be used by any car) - maintainence free. cost - $900 (with warranty)

Bought this battery about 2-3months now so this review is based on its performance so far, not its life span.

Size - excellent - fits with more room in the usually small Honda battery spot.
Comes with - Battery casing and battery poles (size can change)

Have a basic 2 amp setup, that plays loud every now and then. Ive noticed NO more dimming of lights with music, Ive tested the battery twice by playing for about 30-45mins loud, car was on but was able to turn off and start back with 1 bounce easily. Ive noticed before with my usual Power Master 525cca(which is a peak not constant) I would still here a lil hesitation before I start.

The Stinger charges very fast, has a nice constant power and doesnt peak and drop and I havent tested it yet but i believe its a higher voltage output.

A great buy for the any Honda owner (even if you dont have music) its maintainence free and will last you even longer.

Extras - The only thing I would recommend is to get a good terminal to go with it, doesnt have to be a Stinger like the pic(thats what I bought). I found that my car terminals were a lil too big for the battery poles and i didnt like squeezing them in so much.

Battery Seller - Casper
Terminal - Steves Electronics

I was also told by someone that used 1 before that it lasted them about 4 years so if this is true thats excellent. And they had music as well.

what is the current draw of your amps?wouldnt this be a factor in the review?

yea sinners......nice review....i was anxiously waiting for a whole 3 months for ure opinion on the battery...lol....i sold an spv44 yesterday to dipsomaniac as well so i'm anxious to here his reviews on this other model as well....black hi level audio cr-v actually has 3 of the stinger spv35 in his soundoff install as his main batteries....he is using 4 planet audio amps and 2 jugguarnauts 15" and 2 10" b&c speakers with 2 b&c compression drivers as well...and he has NO problem with regards to battery power...suprisingly!!!....obviously he charges the battery before the shows with that charger thing to get MAXIMUM potential from his batteries for the car shows....but....as i said....3 spv35 is doing the trick in his install...so i assume that sinnas' install will be powered well with that spv35 he has.......

yes it would. Im not too sure about the current draw. will check it out. however there were still positive changes that i saw and was hoping for.

amps - Orion XTR 500.4 and Boss monoblock 2500d.

o...... dunno how much of a difference this makes but i also roll around alot with the a/c on full and playing music (not too loud though)

dontcha think that $900 for a 435 CCA battery a bit too much?

when buying these batteries its not the CCA you look at snyper.....these batteries arent made to focus on cold cranking amp capabilities...they are made with concerns of deep cycle capabilities....there is a difference

well honestly thats the same thing I thought at first. But for the people on tuner that knows me I dont buy anything without asking around or researching first. I compared to what I already knew i.e Power Master $400 (525cca) which lasts approx 2years. now thats with dimming of music, I still use to get a lil tumble before the car started(and I use to keep the car on while playing music - this is if i switch off and then on). plus thats 525cca peak NOT constant power.

then I compared the Stinger, 525CCA(peak) 435CCA constant(if i remember correctly). it charges faster, has more cycles, no dimming of lights, no tumbling, car starting in one bouce. Ive ask 3 different ppl that used it and all replies were (3.5 - 5yrs use systems varied though) . but most off all whichis the main reasin i bought it is that its made esp. to fit Hondas.

Its my first upgraded battery ever in use so cost as well didnt bother me as im not too experienced in this field but i compared it to spending 1500 on an Optima and it didnt make sense with the size system I have. so thats it basically. It probably has better deals out there but this met all my requirements and I had a very good transaction with Casper. some had better prices than him but offered no warranty. I prefer to pay more and get what I want headache free than to pay less and risk it.

just decided to update this.........its been 3 years and 3 months since I bought and instaleld. Music in car has changed slightly and had to change the alternator (fluctuating voltage high to low), but battery still going strong. Still no dimming of lights however I hardly play music loud. Probably once a month if so much, but it is on once I driving just very low. Battery died twice with the alternator problem, jumped it and it kept the charge immediately. This was almost a year ago.

$900 - 3yrs 3 months + . I think I make back my money by now lol

Thanks Casper

the Stinger SPV series batteries are great batteries..
got my pair almost 3 years now and they still going strong..

120A stock alternator and 330A current draw at full power, and these things stand up like soldiers!!!

$1,400 is actually a very good price for this battery.
I've had mine going on 2 years and it still performs like the first day.

I don't have a very heavy system in my car, but at moderate volume, I can play music for well over 2 hours with the car switched off and start back as normal.

Just to clarify: moderate volume does not mean you can hear it a corner away rather than two blocks away. I can't remember whether I bought the 35 or the 44... will have to double check.

I don't do this very often... probably when I'm cleaning out the cars in the yard or maybe when we're just hanging around the cars or something. I don't recommend you buy it for this sole purpose as the battery was designed to be charged while dispensing a lot of power.
