generally speaking B&D wont hold up for if u doing installs as a daily business but for d wk end & casual DIY ppl it good enough ...

Taken from the Kreg Website..

Q. Can I use just any screws with the Kreg Jig®?
A. No.
While it may be tempting to try a different screw in a Kreg Joint, there are many reasons why you shouldn't. Kreg screws are specifically designed for use with Kreg Joints and include many features which make them uniquely suited for use with the technique.

Self-Tapping Tip In order to minimize splitting of the wood, our screws use auger-point self-tapping tips which bore their own hole as they are driven. This eliminates the need to drill a small hole in the receiving workpiece before the screws are driven, and keeps your wood from splitting.

Varying Thread Type
Different materials require different thread-type. Our screws come in three distinct styles (coarse, fine, and hi-lo) for use with different wood species. Fine thread for hardwoods such as oak and cherry, coarse for softer woods such as pine and MDF.

Square Drive
All Kreg screws feature a high-quality square head designed to reduce the chance of your driver slipping once engaged.

High-Quality Steel Unlike other screws which heads may snap off when being tightened down, our screws are made from a high-quality high-tensile steel designed to withstand the unique stresses within Kreg Joints.

It's a nice system, would be ideal for repairing broken home furniture etc.. but the availability of screws is a worry..

This is a close up of the Kreg self tapping wood screws..

another downside is he diamond sharpening wheel inside needs changing every now and then and that costs another $20US each..

my main reason for asking is that I have some steel angles and plates to drill and figure i'll need a few bits well to get that done. so it made me wonder if the drill doctor might have been a good investment..

i figure i'll just buy some bits and save me the $$

u using a hand held drill or a drill press ?

when i have to hand drill like say a 1\2" hole in 1\4" thick steel i usually start with a smaller bit like a 3\16" & up d hole wider with a slightly bigger bit , might take u 3-4 bits changes to reach d 1\2" but u def cant just drill a 1\2" hole easy with a 1\2" bit ....

I was actually thinking about doing that, would have loved to get my hands on a drill press but i'm stuck with my hand drill. I have to drill 16 half inch holes through some 3/8" and 5/16" steel..

Will go raid the hardware tomorrow.. Thanks!

thats if u bring in 1 or 2 for personal use but when u bring in to retail for business is all d applicable taxes u have to pay & it adds up in d final pricing , i not rich & dont have connections to buy a whole heap like other sellers to get quantity pricing

d "10-1 rule" dont always apply : apart from all d taxes & additional expenses sometimes certain items go on sale after u done buy & make local retailers look like we over charging but thats how it goes sometimes .....

when you buy a cordless drill/tool you are mostly paying for the batteries.
the quality of the batteries make the difference, just check the cost of replacement batteries
also the more cells a battery has in it the higher the probability that a weak cell can bring down the whole pack especially if the battery is used hard to an empty state regularly
an 18v nicd pack has 15 cells, 14.4v - 12, 12v - 10
I know many people with 18v tools which no longer run like new and when checked with a voltmeter it often reads a cell less
