Amp wiring question.

Postby SYKO » March 16th, 2018, 4:27 pm

Guys wanna get some advice on wiring my speakers on an amp.
2 drivers (8ohms each) and 2 mid bass (8ohms each).
Current configuring -
Bridged ch1 & ch2 for drivers(wired to 4ohms)
Bridged ch 3 & ch4 for mid bass (wired to 4 ohms.

Is this right or shud i connect each driver/speaker to a separate channel?

If maintaining stereo integrity is not an issue that good jussoo. Usually the driver require much less power than your woofers though, guess you attenuated the highs alot?

Its like that so i can adjust and control them separately. In this way i can adjust the amp gain to accommodate excess high notes.

Id wire the drivers on a channel each to attenuate them.

Ok so if i get this right, its a driver on each of the 1st 2 channels and the speakers wired to 4ohms on ch 3/4.
So the amp basically sees :-
Ch1- 8ohms
Ch2 - 8ohms
Ch3/4 - 4ohms

So i rewired and it made the world of a difference. Now i just need to change my pre-amp (currency a pwm 20, plan to go clarion/massive audio) and add a crossover even tho my amp(ss tr4.900d) has a fairly good cross over

Can ditch the pre amp and try your hand with deck to amp and see how it works out.
If you want, invest in a crossover with bandpass to bandpass your mid. I know the powerbass and memphis have the capabilities.

Bandpass just means both the highs and the lows cutoff.
Leaving just a band of frequencies in the middle

Image

Usually
A is for bass
B is for mids/tweets
C can be used for bass/mids/tweets. But usually it's used for bass and mids, just with different frequency ranges.

Bandpass filters good for bass because you don't want it playing too low, and u don't want to be hearing mids from it either. It's basically a subsonic filter working with a low pass filter.

You can use it for mids as well. (think about those three way crossovers, the mid range is usually passed through a bandpass filter.

The blue one is the midrange

Ok guys well i guess im good to go, more or less. So will continue the trial and error and update u guys.
So im guessing with the cross over in the amp i don't need an external one. But in terms of the preamp, the system sounds better wirh it connected, hence the reason i wanna get a better one.

Well truth be told you will find it sounds better because of the line drive it offers. Can be done right without it but if you comfortable with it then by all means, use it.

I cant tell but aim for about 3500hz to 4000hz for the low pass depending on what mid.
What mid tho? See what the specs say, see what is the range and play with it to suit your liking.

Mids are eminence beta 8. Sadly last thing to upgrade, cuz i have a pair of loudforce drivers and well you see the mids amp. Still contemplating on what mids to get.

I think brain steele has a pair of those and like how they sound.
Eminence done right can sound pretty great.
I wasnt 100% keen on those sound but have to be fair, it was mid alone, no tweeter.
With a decent set of tweeters you might be satisfied.

I love how the kappa sounds. They are really nice and seem to be underappreciated

Well ive only ever had these and a pair of soundstream before. These ive had for about 4/5 years, got them frm my cuz who had them for about 2/3 years. Surprisingly they've held out well, 1st time im giving them proper power as i had my entire system on 1 amp. But yes the play nice. When i upgrade will see if the can fit in my front doors (tiida).
Will continue to tweek the system and update.
