What will cause the bass in my two amp system to stop playin when at high volume?

If the bass alone stops then most likely the amp for the bass is tripping. When the bass stops check the bass amp to see if the protection light is on and you would have to take it off and on again for it to reset.
If this is happening then it can be one or more of the following problems.
- amp and speaker ohm doesn't match and the amp is unstable at high volume because it's overloaded.
- you system lack the sufficient current to supply the amp the voltage it needs at high volumes.
- amp can be damaged internally

But more info on your system is needed.

Both your Bass amp stops....
Check you remote wire/relay or RCA or something upstream the amps.
Both amps are unlikely to trip simultaneously due to current ..... one would prob trip seconds before the other then the system would require less current which means the other should continue to play

That happens when I try to play a large amp on a small battery/powersupply

The voltage dips so low that the amp literally cuts off.
Check your voltages.

Some reasons for voltage dips could be (in order of most likely to least likely):
1.)Bolts/nuts/screws on power wires not making good contact. Check all of them.
2.) Subs may be wired too low. How are they wired? And can your amp play those ohms?
3.) small power wires (so feel if it's getting hot).
4.) Amp itself has a problem.
5.) Alternator/battery probably going thru. (you'd notice this in your car otherwise though, least likely scenario here)
