That is not for street use.

That is for Off-roading.

Would be using it in the garden.

This one of my hilux have free wheel hubs in front, so, when on the road I will have is disconnected from the wheels, not affecting anything.

When in the garden, "low n slow"

It is actually quite safe ....I have on the rear and front of my Hilux and I use my van regularly the front however is disconnected via the freewheeling hubs as Jackal mentioned

Unlocked hubs in the front are ok... That looks iffy if it is in the rear on a sealed surface. There is a reason why drifters like 2-way LSDs /spools/welded diffs; makes it easier to initiate a slide. This type of locker looks like it will do just about the same thing at the wrong time.

It is the unpredictability that concerns me.

Spool and welded are the same they don’t disengage while turning but mechanical lockers and lsd disengage or slip while turning.....lockers has a series of springs and pins which moves the plate off when turns are made you will hear a clicking sound when that happens.....LSD locks when one wheel starts to slip

What I was alluding to is that it is easier to slide or drift a vehicle when the two wheels on either the front or rear axle are moving at the same speed but are required to move at different speeds (i.e. when turning a corner).

If the front axle is locked up, turning becomes difficult and you will experience severe understeer. If the rear is locked, turning is also difficult and you will experience severe oversteer. These problems are amplified the faster you are traveling

The intermittent nature of the locking mechanism in Detroit type lockers can cause it to do just that; if it locks at an inopportune time prepare for unpredictable handling.

Yesterday I got the van back.

There is a lot of pulling both left and right, depending on how you are driving. These, in the front is not meant for high speed driving, you can, but it is risky.

It works good though. This is exactly what I need, without breaking the bank.

Lockers won’t cause pulling.....it will cause the steering to get hard when turning that’s why you disengage your front Using freewheeling hubs

Question: I'm 46000 km in on a toyota Hilux 2014. After I did my first under wash I started hearing rattling and squeaking noises from the back of the truck which come and go.

My question is could they have something to do with worn bushings?

Also how long do leaf spring bushings last on average.

Those leaf springs are usually greased at the ends and lengths, as well as the joints throughout the length of the drive shaft.

Under washing would have washed off the grease as well as put water in some undesirable places.

I suggest that you get the springs greased and the drive shaft as well, before rusts sets in.

Another option is to have the suspension sprayed with shock oil after under washing.

Just an update I've isolated the squeak to one of the bushings.

Would that still be a shock oil fix?

That bushing dont usually go bad, especially on a low mileage vehicle.
The shackle busings are usually 1st to go.
Try some silicone spray on it.

Checked out the hubs, one of the free wheeling hubs was not working properly.

I took it out and rebuild it, now it working well.

It not pulling as before but the steering stiffer, which is expected.

Good thing for power steering.

Anybody know where I can get the vanes for the vacuum pump on the Toyota hilux.

My brakes hard, they holding though, but it not soft as it should be.

Checked the vacuum, it is good but I think that the volume might be low.

Brought in a new booster but that is not it.

Another thing, anyone know who have can scan this vehicle, Hilux LN167, 5L EFI, that is OBD1, 2003 model vehicle.

I have a checked engine light since I bought it, cant seem to find anyone who has the capabilities to read it.
