Need advice. Fixing up 1998 Corolla DX Wagon

Postby curryduck09 » March 26th, 2011, 7:27 am

Hi all.

I'm in the process of fixing up my 1998 Corolla DX Wagon. The model number is E-EE104G-AWHDK and it has a 5E-FE engine with automatic 3 speed transmission. This car has really been faithful to me and I don't want to part with it. Still hits 140 - 150 km with relative ease. But it needs some work now.

The engine mounts and transmission mount were changed last year, unfortunately, Taiwaneese parts were used and now the car vibrates like a tractor when it's in Drive and at a complete stop. In neutral, with the AC off, the vibration isn't too bad. No vibration once the car is moving. Need to find genuine replacement mounts.

Other than a small oil leak, no problems with the engine.

Transmission takes a little longer than usual to shift. It doesn't stick, just shifts later than it should. No problems with reverse gear. Need to find a good transmission mechanic to check it out.

Looking for a driver's seat and front bumper.

Need to do some minor body work and a paint job.

Also would like to re-upholster the flooring.

Been advised to upgrade engine and transmission but not too sure what to do. As stated before, absolutely no problems so far with the engine. Depending on how serious the transmission problem is, may have to change that. If I have to change transmission, may as well look into upgrading engine as well.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Just asking, when was the last time you changed your automatic transmission fluid?

I changed the transmission fluid in August last year, when I changed the mounts. The problem started right after that actually.
