Fielder NZE 144 Reviews

Postby Bigman Toyz » February 7th, 2017, 8:27 pm

Hello All,

Can you give me your opinion of this model fielder? I just bought one and now realized it is an all wheel drive. I need some feedback so I can have an idea what to expect.

The all wheel drive vehicle are sometimes sold to the unsuspecting buyer, by some of the Ro-Ro dealers. All wheel drive cars are "continuously all-wheel drive", you cannot go on 2WD mode. There are 3 differentials between the engine and the wheels.
One is between the front wheels, one between the rear wheels, and the third is between the front and rear wheels.
Thus, there are more mechanical parts moving about and unfortunately, more things to fix, if something should go bad. Needless to say, there is more work for the mechanic when repairs are to be done.
Because of all this, the car will be heavier than a 2WD, and will get a lower gas mileage. Might be a tad slower on acceleration.
On the Japanese dealers' side, they sell the AWD models cheaper than the 2WD models, simply because of low demand in our and other markets.

Do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that the AWD NZE144 will give you trouble. Japanese AWD systems are quite reliable (ask Subaru).
Peace.
RR.

Can I change the diff oil? Changing to 2 wheel drive later on will be possible?

Thanks RR,
I found out from both the Dealer and my Mechanic (who happens to be a TOYOTA specialist) that it could be could be done, in fact I checked the DIFF OIL and it was good. It can also be converted to two wheel drive by removing the axle that links both Diff. However on the other hand the Dealer said that once the main axle is dropped, a plate must be affixed to the rear DIFF to contain the oil. He also advised that I leave it 4 wheel as it would have better traction on wet roads.

I just thought I would share the information with you.

Thanks for you help

Thanks for the info.
I wanted to say something similar, but I did not want to put my foot in my mouth. I was not even aware that the rear diff. had to be sealed.
There are quite a few AWD regular cars in Japan.........not high performance models, because there are areas in Japan that have snow conditions in winter. Obviously the AWD cars will fare better.
Many 2WD drive cars imported from Japan come with snow tyres too, so yes, snow is an issue there.
Many Trinis opt to buy SUVs with 4WD, which during their tenure of ownership, will never see the use of that system.
I do know that the 4WD X-Trails are switchable to 2WD.
As earlier mentioned, the AWD is a heavier vehicle, with lesser fuel mileage, more expensive to buy, and if necessary, to repair.
Fortunately for me there was never the need to have an AWD or 4WD vehicle in my driving life. I always had 2WD.
Regards,
Peace.
RR.

Good damn vehicle bad rap from those who never own 1 I am on my 3 one. More gas milage if you want to speed . A little efficient. It has way stronger suspension and corners well... not for speed though 180 kmph is reachable. The tranny is actually the same as the 2wd except the housing is shaped slightly different due to the front diff. You can actually buy a 2wd and place the parts in the 4wd case.... I just did it to mine. I ts nice to see how ithe handles mud and sand like a boss... enjoy your car it's a Toyota after all
