Dave is correct. There is a long plastic cover under and front of the driver's seat with the words "Frame Number". Raise it, and the number is stamped on the metal.
The engine number is at the front of the engine, under the plastic inlet manifold. You have to use a bright flashlight to identify the 1NZ cast with the block. Under it the number, most likely a 7-digit number is stamped. If the area under the 1NZ is oxidised, and you cannot identify the digits properly, roll some emery paper around the tip of a LONG screwdriver, with about 1/2" extended from the tip. Bind the emery to the screwdriver with masking tape. Brush the numeral plate until clean.
In some Corolla models, you may have to move the engine cover saying "VVTI" to get the right light angle.
Peace.
