2001 CEDIA LANCER CVT TRANMISSION PROBLEMS

Postby BATCH » September 9th, 2010, 10:36 pm

HI ALL, MY 2001 1500CC CEDIA LANCER HAS JUST STARTED BEING LAZY ON HILL ESPECIALLY WITH THE AC ON. SOMETIMES WHEN CRUSING UP OR DOWN HILL I CAN FEEL A HESATATION WITH ENGINE SPEED BAHAVING ERRATICLY THE ENGINE WORKS FINE TO ACCELERATE BUT THE TRANSMISSION JUST DOES NOT RESPOND FAST ENOUGH. I HAVE NEVER CHANGER THE OIL IN THE TRANNY NOR ADDED ANY EITHER , IT ISN'T DISCOLOURED OR SMELL BURN'T I BOUGHT IT FOREIGN USED 6 YEARS AGO. ANY IDEAS WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION ? THANKS

I think that's the problem right there....6 years and you never changed tranny oil?

CVT's are very sensitive and requires care over a conventional Automatic transmission.
What you can possibly do is change the tranny fluid...and get the tranny FLUSHED OUT!

Cross your fingers that this method works because CVTs are expensive to repair/replace.

Also have your stepper motor sensor looked at.

From your post i think a basic service and tune up should be done, the erratic idle would most likely be a dirty throttle body, and please remember to use the recommended fluid for the cvt transmission and not normal fluid..

Sounds like your tranny has seen it's end, could be the cvt belt.

Here's a simple video that explains how it works

Cs cvt transmission uses SPIII oil that's original mitsubishi oil. Check your transmission dip stick it has the name there
