For the best app for ssm setups, check out btssm

Specifically developed for the Subaru platform. Very comprehensive

Thinking about going Super + Water Meth.

The cost of the kit and a tune should offset against the savings in fuel in about a year's time...

Not sure of the other implications of using super. Possibility of higher performance is a plus but would like to get some reviews from those using super.

Nerve your car tuned with super? Someone told me they could do a road tune for super around 1600$.. I'm pretty skeptical about the road tuning though

When I mounted up, I had a major vacume leak and was loosing a speed on the radiator fans so temp gauge was going up. Initially changed the coolant temp thinking it was faulty but further troubleshooting revealed it was a wire shorting.
Was a learning experience for me. Learned a lot. Sorted out the vacume leak.
Oil pressure unit was leaking oil also. Didnt make a good seal.
Looking to start up in an hour or two.

Yes, a road tune is possible.

Start up, idle, everything ok.

Small screwdriver had fallen in the engine bay and got stuck in the exhaust. So have to burn off that before I do anything Image

Pully covers to put back.

I've read that Dyno tunes are preferred vs the road tune.. both have some pros and cons.. the car is my DD so I just want to keep it as road friendly as possible.. I also don't want to have to worry about it not being tuned properly.

I was thinking to just get a good retune done on premium rather than the super.. the cost of premium helps keep my foot light lol..

A road tune should be fine for your needs. So as long as the tuner is competent and really spends the time to dial in the car. You can hold them to incremental benefits on the dyno because you have a measurable outcome (hp/tq). On the road you rely on the butt dyno, so you can be swayed if you aren't experienced or confident that the car is actually performing or responding better.

Most of the tunes on my car are road tuned. Just exercise due diligence when you're pulling on public roads.

Dyno tuning really allows you to optimize the tune in a highly controlled environment - great if your intention is to push the limits of the vehicle or if you're extremely picky about optimizing performance. Of course, a road tune better simulates actual driving conditions.

By the way guys,

We're launching a Boxer Project Support Page- https://www.facebook.com/TriniBoxerSupport/

Facebook has quite a bit of groups that are either just outlets to sell stuff, platforms to advance certain products/shops/tuners etc. or repositories for posting internet articles.

We're building content for it now but you can expect to see a lot of local content from guys just trying to build better Subarus. Just like this thread, we want to keep egos out of it where everyone can just come together and learn.

The intention is to highlight local builds, vehicle features, tech articles and to allow other members of the community to share their experiences - Most if it local of course. In the coming months I will be doing a lot of DIY stuff on my own car as I convert it into a semi-daily/semi-track oriented setup. I'll definitely be sharing that journey.

Agreed on if you are a daily and just want a decent tune (road tune).
I myself was looking at the dyno but to save time I opted for the road tune and its a daily. Might spend some time in autocross but that's it really.
A fellow subaru guy retuned for super alone and complained on loss of power. I dont know if the retune for super and meth will have a loss when you're out of boost and have power when youre in it.

I don't think I want to tune to super.. spending money to make my car slower kinda don't make sense..

I'll look into the road tune.. in the mean while I'm upgrading to an all metal intercooler and doing an Intake and exhaust upgrade. Already did an all metal radiator upgrade and tranny cooler upgrade

Those are good places to start, upgrade wise.

Be sure to tune after you've done the upgrades, especially regarding the exhaust upgrades.

Many pages ago I made a post about understanding learning view. I think it might have gotten lost by now.

I was planning on doing a W/M setup to tune with Super but I have a wagon. No where safe to put the tank. And no guarantee that my wife is going to check and refill the tank when required.

Premium cheaper than and engine rebuild.

A little contrary to wanting to have a boosted performance oriented vehicle in the first place.

There are some tanks where you can integrate the pump into the base of it. It's a nice sturdy extruded plastic unit if you have a wagon.

Can't help you in the second possible issue though.

With my aquamist setup, once the low level sensor goes off, it runs wastegate boost only. You could try a failsafe system like that.

Mine has a led that lights up red saying fluid low. And I put the float in a way that when it illuminates there is still about 1/4 tank

Just curious about the oil pump for the ej20x.. is it the same as the ej205?

Nah... Will stick with the premium. I don't drive as much as most even if it's my daily driver.

My wife will see that light and won't fill the tank. Better to stay on the safe side.

Should both be 10mm pumps. But sometimes it's not always the case.

Most swap out the stock for a larger 11mm during the 100k service.

Both ej20x and ej20y use 12mm pumps only.

Yes.. it comes in the legacy gt and the 2008 and onwards WRX (s-gt in Japan) until the introduction of the FA/B engine.. people say these engines like to spin bearings.. I was just wondering if the higher rev limit could cause it if it was using the same pump as the ej205

Also what does oil look like around 3000km
I find my oil looks pretty dark and it's thin enough to drip off the stick with ease..

Sorry for all the questions it's my first month with the car
