why is there a need for acl bearings?
isn't the original subaru bearings a good piece to use?
I would trust that a manufacturer like subaru who builds one extreme to another would put alot of r&d into the parts they use .....or am i missing something?

Dave, I think a lot of guys locally have seen or heard of bearing failure and thus choose to go aftermarket for engine rebuilds.

For my purpose this rounds, I am going with a Stock USDM 2.5 STI block, factory assembled.

Exactly.

I think the main reasons why ACL bearings are being used by some folks who rebuild subaru engines (vs stock bearings), or even King Bearings (which are supposed to be one of the best), is mainly due to the fact that that's what's commonly available down here.

But that doesn't address the issue which caused the failure really.

thanks guys

when i rebuilt a SR engine, the nissan bearings were a hard to beat item and they were loads cheaper than aftermkt
i proccured some bearins for mitsus and subbies and the ppl who bought them said the aftermkt was cheaper than the oe units so i guess i had an answer there too

Got the block last night

(Big Thanks to AWD Motorsports)

EJ257 with the Nitrided Crank. Just waiting on a pair of head gaskets and a 12mm oil pump.

I can't believe ej25 head gaskets are so hard to locate.

Good luck with the engine. Keep the revs a little lower than the 2.0L.
Head gaskets shouldn't be hard to get. When I was worried about my first build I was able to locate a few options the next day locally.

Thanks nemesis!

I tried the usual suspects.

So far I only got a hit from Teknet, but tomorrow I'm in an allday conference-he's closed on a saturday.

I can't believe ej25 head gaskets are so hard to locate.

I can't either.

Maybe you've never heard of having a "skybox"? EJ25 gaskets are prolific on websites from JSC, MAPerf, etc etc

Incorrect usage of the word but he is right Vexx, there is a plethora of EJ25 gaskets available in the US. Try eZone or one of those services to bring it in for you if you don't have a link

aah it's my fault for not explaining. I forgot to include the word 'locally' at the end of that statement

I have a skybox and would have brought it in, but we needed it for this weekend, so I was looking for it through the local channels first who may have had it in stock.

If by tomorrow I dont hear from sherwin, I'll probably rush ship it in myself.

nah, doing the 5MT conversion one time, so there a bit more on the plate than a standard engine assembly.
