Need Help! Local Legacy Tranny Problems

I need a transmission for a Local Legacy Turbo Model BL5

Tranny number: TG5C7CWAAA

Anybody have experience using a Japan (JDM) Tranny on a local legacy?

I understand that i have to get a Singapore (SDM) Tranny replacement.

Hmmm this might be tricky..check the harness of an equivalent model year JDM LGT, in particular..the pin configuration. If it's the same it should work. That being said..also make sure the ratio of the rear diff is the same as on your ADM LGT.

A replacement tranny is cheap for model years :'03-'06

However if JDM/ADM compatibility is an issue why don't you just rebuild? Lots of local legacies have had rebuilt transmissions by shops down here.

Hey sorry for not seeing these comments...
I spoke to Gobin already. He don't have a tranny with the exact matching number (TG5C7CWAAA).
I found tranny's with almost identical numbers at different places.
For example TG5C7C ? AAA. The "?" was different in about 4-5 trannys, but the first 6 digits and last 3 digits were the same.
Does anyone know how to break down the code?
What each character means?
Any help would be appreciated.

Or the problem with the tranny is the 2-3 "gear" is slamming in. (loud thump and jerk) when engine is cool.
After driving for some time, 1/2 hr or so this problem seems to go away.
Diagnostic says its the turbine sensor. Switched this with another and same problem.
Occasionally the "Sport" light blinks on the dash.
This problem of slamming in happend in all modes of the tranny: Automatic/Sport/Manual Shifting.

hmmm once the numbers don't line up it's a gr8 possibility the jacks wouldn't as well

u can compare the pin orientation on the jacks of the tranny u found and see if it wud match up with urs and u can take a chance

the slamming into 3rd may be fixed by a TCU reset..use the subaru select monitor and clear memory 2..it should help

if it doesn't then count down the days until the trans fails. u can always take it to a repair shop an get a quote..local trans are hard to come by if u ask me.

When last or if at all have you changed your tranny oil? And how often do u change it and what oil do u use?

It have one fix for any transmission problem, Gearbox FTW.

but really the best thing to do is see if you can locate a rebuild kit, or maybe someone locally to rebuild it.

I changed the oil already...same problem.
I thought about gearbox...but i already have a WRX manual...
I personally don't like rebuilding a tranny...when you open it the tolerances on the internal parts cannot be seen by the eye. I know too many people spend thousands on tranny repair only to have the same problem when they started.
I believe it is a solenoid problem. My next step is to change that if i don't get a tranny replacement.
Thanks for the advice...exploring all possible avenues is a good idea.
Oh yeah...i reset the TCU and it worked only but for a moment...but...back to normal

More than likely it's the solenoids, especially since it worked fine after the TCU reset.

I have a damaged transmission (housing damaged) from a local 2.0R Impreza so all the internals will be good. If the solenoids are the same you're welcomed to try them and see.

Also, I have rebuilt a few transmissions by Winston in La Romaine and they all work fine to this date (all Subaru btw) so may be worth giving him a shout.

Went ahead and bought a f/used tranny...didn't work...
Now the mechanic says all the gears is slamming in...and the sport light is blinking...
Plan now is to change out the TCU to see if that's the problem...hope i get my money back for the tranny...

What was the overall solution? I'm in a similar situation. About to install the BAAA into what is a WAAA car

Old post..wew...went ahead and did a complete conversion to manual...was expensive...
Anyway in most cases its the solenoids that give trouble.
To be honest I would say the best guess on any tranny problems in Trinidad is heat related.
So a good tranny oil cooler/with fan should keep all those electronics submerge in oil happy.
Is your car local?
If so, i believe my mechanic in Marabella still have my old tranny...maybe you can get parts for yours unless its the same problem solenoid..

My axles worked back so no need to buy those.

That's a great price. What vehicle was the gearbox originally from?

Same year legacy 2004, so everything worked fine. Only mistake i made was not going in with a new clutch...now that wrong move is costing me a flywheel due to the damage the old clutch did...so currently the car is down for a clutch/pressure plate/flywheel replacement. Doing an engine refresh while down also....should be up and running in bit...

Where did you buy everything? Looking to do a conversion on mine. Transmission working fine but i want a gearbox and too many mods to sell & buy a manual car.

Well i bought this some time ago at Navin (D&D) in the bamboo...doubt it has more, because i was lucky to get everything from a front cut.
I recommend using a WRX box for the gear ratio, much quicker....but if no luck in finding one a legacy.
Please note the legacy gearbox comes with a dual mass flywheel that is usually not good after many years of mileage...
And the WRX flywheel of the same year cannot bolt up...
I just did a conversion to single mass light flywheel, clutch and pressure plate...plenty $$$$

You will need the following:- Gearbox, Diff, Driveshaft, Pedals (brake and clutch), clutch master/slave cylinder, gearbox support bracket, manual ecu (if you want the car to function like a manual), instrument panel, keys (very important to match with ECU), security ECU...and wiring up of the reverse light from the automatic tranny harness to the manual harness on the gearbox (simple for a car electrician).

By the way, Bicks close to grand bazzar parallel to the highway had some engines and gearbox complete for around 10K...not legacy, forester, WRX etc...check dem out...probably sold by now, but you never know...about 10 engines last time i checked...

Okay ill check out navin. I did a conversion on a forester i had about 5 years ago so i know my way around it. Hoping to go 6speed but if i get a package deal ill put it up for the while.

Good info on the flywheel I would have overlooked that.

I can handle all the mechanical & electrical myself.

Did you run into any issues with the subframe bolting up? Ive heard the Automatic cars have the bolt holes in a different location compared to the manuals.
