2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara Abs and Transmission light

Postby makiylahb » June 9th, 2019, 8:58 pm

While driving the transmission light comes on

Then all guages went to zero, temperature and gas gauge went to cold and E as if the vehicle was turned off and the abs and brake light came on.

What's happening to my GV?

On the surface, it sounds like a ground-fault on the instrument panel power circuit.

The BCM provides control logic for many vehicle body systems like headlamp warning, IP indication lights, dome light dimming, etc.

You could have a ground fault on a circuit to the IP, a bad connection between the IP and BCM, a blown fuse or faulty B+ connection, a failed BCM, etc.

Check the connectors to the BCM first, especially if you have been working on the IP or radio wire harnesses.

The body control module (BCM) is behind the radio, on the instrument panel (IP) structure.Image

I couldn't say but I could guess in the $1000 range.

I would expect that the failure is a bad wire terminal, a broken wire, a loose connector, etc. The parts cost is likely small but in my experience they are unfortunately the most difficult failures to identify.

I still cannot locate a bcm locally. Do you think an electrician can repair mine?

An electronics shop would need to test it and repair and bad components or circuits. It may be easier to ship one in if you can't find one in a scrap yard.

Never expected this to be so complicated. I am getting them in the bamboo but they are saying that it must have the same code as mine

I am not sure what the sellers in the Bamboo are referring to when they say "code"...

The body control module usually doesn't change much with respect to the physical internal components but the software may change. The software change will usually cause the part number to be incremented (bumped to the next number).

The safest bet is that you buy the same part number. But you can do your online research and find out which part numbers are interchangeable.

SO I found the BCM, and found one with the same number and changed it, however the problem still persists... what next could it be?
