Consumer Alert: Third Party Alarm on Factory Keyless System

Postby NorStar2K » March 10th, 2011, 3:52 pm

For Smartkey FOB users only.

If you've installed an after market alarm system onto your Suzuki Grand Vitara with Smartkey keyless entry and keyless start, please note the following:

The third party alarm remote must NOT be used to lock/unlock the doors, the possibility of damage to the electric door latch actuators is possible.

The third party alarm remote should only be used to arm/disarm the alarm.

Use the factory FOB to operate the door latches (locks) ONLY.

If your alarm system currently works in the aforementioned manner, it is highly advisable that you disconnect the lock/unlock feature from your third party alarm remote.

An actuator costs $1600TTD each, plus installation.

Can you elaborate on the damage? What exactly is affected?

Just spoke to norstar2k and the door actuators have failed.

An actuator is basically an electric motor coupled to a door lock control unit.
How the motor and control unit(s) are setup will affect how it works and affect the failure point.
Am looking forward to seeing exactly how Suzuki has implemented this.
Given my previous experience with the stealership, I strongly doubt their ability to provide justifiable solutions.

I have my alarm programmed to lock the doors if I wish with the remote but I use the factory remote entry to lock and unlock doors

My brothers swift sport has this same keyless system from the factory, we are currently using a third party alarm in conjunction with the stock system. The third party system is designed to work with cars with this keyless system from factory. I can't recall the name of the unit right now but I will get back to you guys. We still use the factory remote...when we unlock or lock the doors with the factory handset it automatically triggers the third party alarm to arm/disarm. The third party alarm has enabled starter cut when armed in conjunction with the stock immobolizer system. The third party alarm also is vibration triggered and gives the normal chirps from a siren like any normal alarm system. We are very pleased with how this works since we have no additional handsets and the stock security system is unaffected.
