Replacement Key for Swift

Postby pete » February 2nd, 2013, 4:04 pm

Guys,

Anyone knows if there are keys available locally that can be programmed for the 2006+ Swifts? Lost one of mine and LSM wants $1400 for a new one.

This website has them for 20 quid so if not available I think I'll bring one. (Once I can confirm that LSM will program it)

First find out how much they will charge to program it. It may work out cheaper to buy it directly from them after all.

i think the item in ur link is a blank key, without the keyless entry tingy (not sure what its called exactly!)

last i checked, LSM quoted me 1500 to replace my key, cuz the cover for the keyless entry button thing inside was broken....
so my key is held together with some tape currently...

as for relacements...
the only option i can think of is to carry ur spare at RUDD, on duke street, POS.
they do "chip" keys for 1200

i am currently looking for a blank to insert my keyless entry thing but they are £28 on ebay, last i checked, and i spoke to a lock smith who said he wont risk cuttng the blank key on his machine as he is unsure of the material and doesnt want to risk damaging his machine!

i think you should give RUDD a call and find out the option for having the key programmed! etc.

an update us!
;-)

They charge $350 to program it in addition to the $1400 for the key. :|

I don't really need the keyless entry side of it as I have an alarm, just need the key to be able to be programmed. Although, if I buy a key that looks like the original key they probably will go ahead and program it without a problem and if I bring a different key they might just say it won't work. 8 pounds more would probably be worth it in that case.

Also, the car apparently will only work with two keys. So if I get a new key programmed then the lost key automatically won't start the car. It could still open the doors but hopefully the alarm will be a deterrent for anyone wanting to get into the car. (I already got a new alarm remote and had it reprogrammed so that the other remote won't be able to deactivate the alarm)
