subaru ej20 injectors on ss?

Postby jm3 » March 9th, 2013, 11:13 pm

guys i have a little problem i need 1 replacement injector for the ss,
but lsm doesn't have any in stock i have read that imprezza wrx injectors bolt right up is this true?
as i have the forester outside if i take the injectors off that will they work on the ss until i can get replacement oem ones in? i know there a higher flow rate but this would still be metered by the ecu right? this is not for a performance gain right now this is strictly to be able to drive the car relatively normal for about 2-3 weeks while waiting for new ones to come.

so long as they fit in the fuel rail and can be plugged into the harness it will work

I think its a bad idea jm3
The ecu trims the pulse width across all four cylinders, and upon seeing the rich condition will not only trim the larger injector but the other 3 smaller ones as well.
Even if this doesn't happen and it 'black smokes', the cylinder with the large injector may suffer bore washing and increased wear, in addition to oil contamination and even plug fouling.
Are the impedance values also the same?
This is assuming the flow rates are very different, you got specs?

From a quick search, the sport is supposed to be 200cc and the forester are either 380 or 440 so yeah.. I think they're way too big and might do as chief said above and wash the cylinders and increase wear badly

Great article on injector flow rates and pressures

The 440 will more than double the flow rate of your stock setup.
I dont believe that the stock ecu will be able to compensate for this large differential in injector sizing, and you may end up running very rich.
Should you insist on doing this setup, I strongly suggest that you invest in a fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure to the upgraded injectors.
Attached image should have enough info for you to figure out the fpr setup.

linky

OEM M13 and M15 = 180cc/min
OEM M16 = 250cc/min
RRP large injectors = 380cc/min

p_14_b.jpg

Not sure about the reliability of the info below.

The 1NZ-FE uses 200cc Injectors with 8 holes for spray, this is better for economy and emissions

The 1998 Non-VVTi 1ZZ-FE uses 200cc injectors 4 spray holes, these allow more fuel to get into the chamber, a little bit better for performance since the fuel is hitting the top of the piston.

1999-2000 Non-VVTi 1ZZ's used the same 200cc injectors that the 1NZ uses.

2001 and up VVTi 1ZZ's used 250cc injectors

The 2ZZ uses 310cc injectors

all of that brings me back to the original question can the car run ok on larger cc injectors without management? i think the only real way to know for sure is to put them in and see right?
it actually woks out to be cheaper to buy an emanage blue and replace the injectors with the foresters then i could run a map to run on super and cut the fuel bill down to absorb the cost
stock injectors are 1300tt each at lsm btw.

one more question anyone have a reliable way to test the injector i don't see anything wrong with it but the mechanic is sure it needs to be replaced i tested it on the bench at work and the solenoid is working fine the holes are all clear but there is some minor abrasion to the surface.

I think we need to use the emanage ultimate on the Swift. Can anyone else confirm?

M13A engine scrapping. Yellow injectors available.
Call Suresh at 766-3293. Marabella.

Emanage Ultimate is the management of choice on all the Swifts I know.
And there's Larry's Ignis with the Carvtech Autronic ECU.
