2005 Audi A6 (2.4V6) - Your thoughts

Postby Corollaman » November 19th, 2010, 6:56 pm

Today, I test drove a 2005 A6 from Southern Sales used cars division. Physically, the car is in pretty great shape and the drive felt unreal  . They calling 165k for the car.

As my user name implies, I know absolutely nothing about this car. All I seem to remember is the horror stories involving audi and most other euros in Trinidad.

I'm in love with it. The price sounds right to me but I am in need of some unbiased opinions/ reviews of the vehicle. Better yet from an owner.

I already know parts are expensive and that you have to be meticulous with the maintenance. I'm also concerned with the transmission problems that seem to plague these cars.

Are there mechanics outside the firm who are competent with these vehicles? I would really like to have someone evaluate the car before I make any decision.

What is parts availability like? Can these be easily sourced from foreign?

All comments/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Corollaman (maybe Audi man? who knows :P )

ahhh yes i test drives this A6 it was wonderful i must say. its a really nice car. I only own European vehicles and i can tell you this, with these cars when they say change oil every 5000km do it and even firmer rules apply with the Transmission. People tend to own vehicles and never seem to change their transmission oil causing the Transmission clutches to burn over time making failure imminent. If you purchase this type of vehicle you need to keep your wallet close to your heart and when service time comes don't spare a cent. live by this rule with Euro cars and they will out live any Japanese vehicle any day. So in conclusion its just the maintainable that keeps these cars running. hope this helps in your decision.

i currently own an a6 which i bought from southern sales 2yrs ago.......i must say the transmission problems mostly occur in the a4 not d a6 and i would advise anyone to choose d a6 infront of d a4.......however if u decide to purchase the a6 u should look at the rotors.....inner and outer cv joints and make sure all the doors and windows are working properly.......and i does import all my service parts so u can message me if u hadda get anything

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

One thing that bothers me though. The trim seemed to be in really bad shape. Buttons faded, the chrome strips broken. Is this normal? I know the interior suffers a bit because of our high temperature.

Audi's are decent cars. 2005 A6 for $165k is ridiculous though.
Y'sbes you buy a foreign used from japan.

And D Opel man is right. They dont need repairs often, but when they do, spend your money and buy QUALITY parts. if you cheap out on your euro, it will embarrass you.

not sure how the 2.4 performs but I have the 4.2 and in the US parts are very easy to source and cheap (used or new).

assuming it's the same part numbers etc

sorry to highjack topic. i have an interest in an A6 C5 3.0 V6. Was parked for 8 months in the open. Headlights oxidized heavily, paint faded badly and tyres flat. It was started, smoke came out the engine for a few minutes then stopped. Mileage is 139XXX. With regards to age age/mileage and the parking up, what kind of problems I may run into?

I am also aware of the passenger side flooding, which causes damage to the ecu/harness, due to blockage of the water drain hole located by the firewall...There was a recall on Audi vehicles for this in the US...
