Nope vw will not make manuals available to our market. They sort of decide what they are going to send to us. The next thing is adding on options to a car increases the training needed by the ba techs and also the spare parts they need to stock.

Although in this case... a manual tranny might be simpler situation and require less training

Out of 200 jettas sold 10 would have been manual. Makes no sense to BA to stock GB parts for 10 cars.

All well and good but financially for the car dealerships it makes no sense.
Only company willing to bring a manual vehicle was Mitsubishi bringing the cy manual. Don't know if they still will do that

Kinda sucks that we as consumers are sorta cornered into buying what's available vs buying what we may really want. Trinidad will be a real high challenge to overcome that hurdle. You are talking a whole new realm of us consumers banding together to overcome a cause - not smtgh we as trinis are known for nor good at doing :-(

i just avoided the local dealerships and got my own car. me being a bit hands on with tuning and simple mechanics helps. but i think as purists we should jump at the opportunity to be hands on and get a bit dirty to get what we really want.

forget about the public and public paradigms. focus on oneself.

Been having some knocking noise under med to hard acceleration for months now, back and forth with BA has proven to be a waste of time and money and only bad suggestions. Going have gear box mount and strut mounts checked. Since BA or Federal seem to be scared to actually check the mounts. Gonna get Kester to have a drive a look. Noise gets louder at high revs and under heavy load. Might replace them with THS FR3 engine mount for 1.2/1.4 VAG car. Should be 33% stiffer and solid (not fluid filled like OEM). More details as time goes by

Is there anything from a maintenance perspective to assist in the life of the mechatronic unit? Any best practices?

Nothing. Not even the dealer services then. When they are replaced they don't even put the faulty one in your trunk. They are shipped back to Germany for analysis. Says a lot about the part.

Anyone know if there have been any revisions to the MU?
tried looking online but have not found anything. So we know the oil change most likely doesn't work.
Interesting thing is out of Australia and Malaysia the opinion is VW does not take any responsibility or admit to any wrong with these engineering flaws.

Best I can offer is the latest mech has a diff dsg map and recently dated 2014 when mine was replaced..the oil replacent has not been shown to fail based on reports at best auto and the aussy VW forum to date..(referring to waiting until yours has failed, then installed recent mech and adding mineral oil)..too soon to make any assumption...

The guys who replaced pre recall if ya wanna call it that, may be a case of a batch of say 20 mechs in storage at mexico werent current...who knows...
