The polo comes with a synthetic transmission oil. The recommendation after the mechatronic issues was to change to mineral oil, Confirmed it after the change with the invoice and by a transmission specialist.
I'm confused, the mechatronics is a sealed part in which the mineral oil is 2 be used. I.e. it comes filed already. The transmission is filed separately with oil...

So as I was thinking, the polo may have a different transmission. Is it 6 sp or 7 sp?

I assume after your first mechatronics failure you did some research. I saw postings about the synthetic oil crystalizing and this contributed to mechatronic failure. The recommendation, from VW also, was to change to mineral oil. The service manual states the oil should be changed at 60k but they did not do it for me...don't know if it was done for you.

The polo and jetta come with the same 7 speed dsg. Some Jettas came with mineral oil in the gearbox. Some came with synthetic oil in the gearbox. Note that the gearbox oil is different from the oil that fills the mechatronic.

There was a recall/service campaign to change gearboxes filled with synthetic oil to mineral oil. Synthetic oil was found to damage mechatronic units.

The poster who paid to have it changed should not have paid a cent. Best Auto changes it for free. It’s VW’s mistake. Not the owner’s.

I saw it as part of maintenance so I paid for it same was as you pay for an oil change. Plus it was after 4 years and as anyone knows with Bess Motors is stress to get anything from them.

It’s not part of maintenance. Also it’s not stress if you have some info or documentation to back up certain requests.

If time meant anything people wouldn’t get goodwill years after the 2 year warranty ran out.

Confirmed that mines is also the dsg 7.
I have always gotten good service from BA from salesman to service to out of wawarranty service. I love my Polo...I just want to know what is the real deal with my mechatronic issue. I need a long term solution. Car is doing 180k kilos. It's the longest I've ever kept a car.

I agree with that sentiment. My polo is my favourite car, ppl never expect that kind of performance from a little car. Mine is doing 90k, I stopped servicing with Bess because they were having problems getting suspension parts. I been buying parts straight from the UK and they direct ship to Trinidad. Hope you get through with the issue.

Guys , shifting to gear 5 feels rough(not vibrating or shuddering but noticeable) .But when I give it a little more throttle the next time I am going to 5th , it does shift smooth. I usually use D mode with not much throttle. Sport mode and manual with shifting are smooth btw. Maybe I am giving it less gas overall? idk. Thoughts?

To me, u shouldn't b feeling anything after 2nd gear unless something wrong with the gear itself or shaft. Gears 1,3,5,7 are on 1 shaft n 2,4,6 on another. Can't remember which reverse on, think it's the even shaft. But any gear after 3rd will actually b spinning faster than the engine rpms so there shouldn't b any power shocks.

Sorry for the late reply:

1. Just around 2 years and about 70,000 km on 2 or 3 occasions, the D light was flashing and gears did not engage. Simple restart would reset it. BA changed on warranty.

2. On year 5 (last year July), metal cover on mechatronic unit swelled and popped to the top causing the oil to leak out. The gears just disengaged. D light was flashing. BA changed on goodwill.

3. Less than 5 months after getting back the vehicle, while engaging Reverse, heard a mechanical noise if is something was mashing up...D light was flashing. BA to change on goodwill again...

I need a longterm solution. Cannot go forward with this "unknown" issue anymore. Maybe I should convert to a regular stick shift?

I've realised the same when shifting at night or when rain is falling...

Typically when the fluids heats up and breaks down you can feel that in a normal automatic transmission. Not sure if normal rules apply here.
