FCC and Net Neutrality

Postby triniangie » December 14th, 2017, 4:07 pm

The FCC just killed net neutrality

By Jacob Kastrenakes Dec 14, 2017, 1:12pm EST

Net neutrality is dead — at least for now. In a 3-2 vote today, the Federal Communications Commission approved a measure to remove the tough net neutrality rules it put in place just two years ago. Those rules prevented internet providers from blocking and throttling traffic and offering paid fast lanes. They also classified internet providers as Title II common carriers in order to give the measure strong legal backing.

Netflix: We’re disappointed in the decision to gut #NetNeutrality protections that ushered in an unprecedented era of innovation, creativity & civic engagement. This is the beginning of a longer legal battle. Netflix stands w/ innovators, large & small, to oppose this misguided FCC order.

FCC Head Ajit Pai and the big telecoms are pushing this claiming that they will not abuse their power. But what is to stop the telecoms from giving more bandwidth and speed to their own products for their customers?
It means that smaller operators or their competitors (big and small) will have to pay to play.

'pushing'? they already voted to let it go unregulated.
its up to the masses to protest the outcome, to show the demand.

but ajit aint worried cause most people are stupid and dont understand the potential.
he already trolled his opponents with this video

A couple of the arguments used to justify the move:

*It will encourage continued infrastructural development by the big firms (Comcast etc.). The assumption here is that such firms can control their Return On Investment by prioritizing their services for higher paying customers.

*The "control of content" (i.e. what end users see) is already happening on a site by site basis depending on what agenda they or their advertisers want to push. The "new" regulatory framework will allow the FCC to monitor such instances and take corrective action if needed.

If anything this discussion has exposed the hypocrisy of some of the tech firms like Twitter, Youtube and Facebook who have been accused of sanitizing feeds, demonetizing videos and otherwise channeling content for the aforementioned reasons. All they're really concerned about is the apparent shift in power to the ISPs and away from themselves...:|

While America puts control of Internet traffic in the hands of the big corporations, nikki Haley was talking about escalating war against Iran. This happens while China has announced to move away from trading for oil in USd, and use the yuan directly. And trump string up the middle east pot by gas lighting the Arab world by his Jerusalem statement.
And USA has talked about a naval blockade thing against North Korea.

If allyuh don't see how America the business, is just making things worse... Damn.
