stand can be made for 1500-200 with 2by2" 2.5 shs if u can get thicker it would be better (TWSS),get a GOOD FABRICATOR not a welder A FABRICATOR if the stand is not level or the top surface is uneven the tank will crack , i Had to buy a proper stand because the one i made myself was discovered to be hilariously inadequate ( i made it with 1.5 shs lol ) fortunately i discovered that before i filled the tank ...... costwise for bigger tanks it may be cheaper to a mini "decking" , concrete stand but that would be a permanent structure

I actually running a 72x24x30 on a wooden stand 3 yrs plus now. The legs are 4" dressed pitch pine and the braces are 2"x6" & 2"x4" dressed pitchpine. Saltwater reacts different with the wood than fresh water. It holds out better with the salt. Really want to double stack some frag tanks so I want to go the metal stands.

nice , my wood working skills are very limited...... most of my setups are fresh a brackish and hopefully a 50 gal salt soon and i def doing a wood stand for it , i got a good rundown on it's construction and setup from Raj the salt guy in palmise a while back, but again my wood working skills are limited.... i was playing around with the idea of coating a metal stand with marine grade paint but that was shot down when i went found out the prices lol , i currently contemplating using a few coats of a latex paint but i feel the wood stand is the best bet

^^On a sheet of stryo bro. No stand will be absolutely PERFECTLY flat, there will always be very small imperfections especially if the stand is big. Also the heavier the tank (with water) the more pressure will be spread out on the bottom base piece of glass of the tank. The styrofoam will even out the imperfections (only small imperfections eh, not major). Just make sure a good person makes the stand and make sure it perfectly flat.

As a matter of fact, I use a piece of ply first, then put styro on top that and then rest down the tank just to be safe. You really dont want to deal with a cracked glass and dead fish, so play it safe up front.

I got away with putting a tank on the metal stand alone eh, but it was a small 2ft tank so it was light. This is not recommended for 3ft and up tanks.

i use styrofoam alone below the tank once the stand is flat enough there should be no problem

tilapia grower can cause bloat in african cichlids (yes i kno tilapia is an african cichlid lol ) dude to the high amount of animal based protein in it it's made with cheap fillers so for long term sustenance of ornamental fish it wouldn't be too great the upside is that's it's food grade so if u want to eat ur fish u dont have to worry u could use it but not as a staple
