WTK: About the Typical RORO dealer

Postby angel_player » March 14th, 2009, 10:39 pm

I was wondering about starting off a little roll on roll off business, nothing to grand to start off with, jus get a small financing and bring in a few vehicles as a start. But what I was wondering is how profitable is the business and how much does a typical RORO dealer make on a a sale of a vehicle??

why are you getting into an already saturated industry, that is experiencing shrinkage and with a Gov't that is so vehemently against it?

5 yrs ago, RORO business was boomin! Now, due to the over-saturation, heavy competition, and govt intervention (didn't mean to rhyme, but ok lol) its becomin less and less profitable, due to the fact that dealers have to come reall good, because it have ah man nex door willin to offer a better RORO deal...
There is still money to be made nevertheless, due to the fact that it still exists... jus find a way to sweeten the deal, invest in some good marketing strategies (DONT underestimate that, and go for it!) Good luck...

P.S. Most members of this website ARE in fact RORO dealers, so dont expect too much encouragement and helpful information from potential competition....

To start with u lookin at the wrong factors.....

1. Profit is not all, if you cannot sell or get customers = NO PROFIT!!!

2. That industry is to saturated and on its way out the door, so to speak!

3. If at the moment you are DEBT free, well try and keep it so for as long as you can in these times, now is not a time to be making large CAPITAL INVESTMENTS.... espically in industries that may not give you the return you hoped for....

8-) 8-) 8-)

If he had a wild idea to make a dealership work, he wouldn't be asking about the fundamentals of the trade, would he now?

goodness well yea i got a quite a few answers lol.. well I called Min of Trade and Industry and well I got some info from there as well as by word of mouth from other folks and well from here. The profit margin I asked about cuz so far noone seem to have any good estimated value to tell me dunno why  On the other hand I hear alot of ppl say its alot of rip off etc, but to describe the rip off ppl seem to jus say it and not go indepth. Also by the way alot of the RORO dealers sayin they have vehicles on the port these days and getting some issues to clear it. Anyone cud properly verify that problem?

it interesting to hear the workers talk about their stints working in a japan scrapyard with a favorite 14 spanner
