So I allowed the TV to select its DNS server automatically ...
Netflix is now working

What's the difference?

those raw drivers are kinda crappy without a proper passive crossover/ EQ to tame the spikes around certain frequency ranges

Well I tried the smart dns number ...it didn't work...but it's working with the automatically set DNS number.

I'm not sure why.

Where have you configured the DNS? On the router or on the TV?

If on the router, the tv will automatically assign the DNS but you will still get the us based ip cause u r still connecting thru the router.

I seem to have had a similar problem with a sony bd player and netflix and once my DNS setting was configured on the router all was well... Once it was configured on the bd player, Netflix gave real issues

which universal remote you have?

the Logitech Harmony can download all the controls from the net just by entering the device model number, from receivers and tv's to aircondition units and window blinds.

Really?

Ive finally (20 min ago) found an english MANUAL for the 1802...so Im going home to see if I can switch to the optical input without the remote

I almost bought a replacement remote for the Denon.....but the truth is that it might be only used once a week to play some music or watch a movie with the audio from the amp.

The Harmony would be a great alternative if the above fails

I've had the Harmony 900 for years on my main HT system and I just got the harmony Ultimate Home

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-915-0002 ... 00N3RFCBE/

yeah it is pricey for a remote but what it does is awesome. Control your whole house.
Plus to add a device simply enter the device model number and it downloads all the controls off the net via wifi.

control a/c units, lights, dimmers, blinds, tv, radio, PS3, Roku, Apple TV, Xbox, computers, you name it.
And it is RF (radio frequency) so you don't have to point the remote at things, even if they work with IR (infrared). You don't even need to be in the room.
Plus if you can't find the remote or you left it downstairs and want to control the radio or lights in your bedroom, just open the Harmony app on your smartphone and use that instead, all the devices and controls on the remote will show on your phone or tablet.
Amazeballs.

You can setup macros / activities that group a bunch of controls into one button.

Sounds Like Music
A good speaker should be equally at home with both movies and music, and I’ve never reviewed a speaker system that glitters on one and flops on the other.

we not saying it doesnt exist.

but look at what you posted there. Not many can fit that in their living room next to their TV.

Smaller 5.1 and 7.1 systems sound great with movies, but not so much with audiophile grade music.

My 2c on all-round systems...

I will be building my 5.1 home theater using pro audio components from JBL and B&C, pro audio amps and processing. I have most of the components, but the room isn't ready just yet. I also have other home audio systems (2.1 and 2.0) from Scanspeak and Seas for listening to music.

To be honest, I would not use the Scanspeak/Seas for movies. They don't have the dynamics to keep the emotion and feel of movies in the size of room that movies are watched in. They don't have the technical specs to meet what I would like to enjoy for movies (Freq response, Sensitivity, Dispersion, and good old SPL). I also don't think my future home theater system would be as pleasing to listen to for music due to the nature of the materials used in the pro audio speakers to achieve higher efficiency. But specific brands were chosen because of their commitment to sound quality.

On another note, I honestly find the HT and home audio market is over priced with too much marketing hype, and most reviews are always taken with a grain of salt. There is too much focus on form rather than function. I need to hear for myself and it's very rarely as good as it's hyped up to be. There's a lot more to consider in proper HT design and in my opinion most out of the box solutions hardly cater for the requirements I would need.

While we're on the topic of personal preference for home theater, I think many people in T&T put all their effort in their audio and almost none in picture quality. If at all, they just go for sheer size and IMO useless specs like 240hz and smartTV instead of much more useful things like black levels, contrast ratio, panel type etc

How does using the touch screen compare to having the physical buttons on the 900? in particular the number pad.

was it a plasma or LED?

the Ultimate brings up the numbers on the screen

but the idea is to save your channels with logos on the screen so you don't have to remember or punch in numbers

What about LG? I've got a 42" LG LCD for 4 yrs and am quite pleased. I've compared it to my brother-in-law's Sony Bravia and that Sony can't compare in picture quality. If I was to replace I would be replacing with a LG.

LED. Last year i had a problem with a dark corner of the screen caused by blown LEDs. About a month ago another corner went dark. Now my tv is stuck cycling on/off because the pwr supply isnt detecting the correct load from the leds as im assuming all are blown.

According to the service manual for my model there is no part number for the leds as they are considered part of the panel.

I could try replacing the psu pcb as it seems to be a common issue for samsungs made around that time to suffer from some blown caps on the psu pcb, but even if that works it would still give me a screen with 2 dark corners.

check here for almost every imaginable Channel icon http://www.iconharmony.com/icons/home

for the local channels I got their logos off google and created channel icons for it. Just save it as a 108x108px .png file
