You probably wouldn't believe this but all motherboard manufacturers are in on the sham of unnecessary components on your board to make you believe that it is better quality. Msi just does it the least at the lower to middle end of the spectrum.(thanks to buildzoid at "actually hardcore overclocking" for pointing out these things).

About the RGB. I just like a clean elegant style. RGB can be easily overdone, and it appeals to a particular age group.
My case for example had a white LED front fan... But it came with a button to turn it off. The only case that I loved with LEDs was the thermal take tsunami dream.

My mind associates LEDs with neon and underglow for cars. Probably thinking how cool that was at one point in time and then suddenly we start appreciating OEM+. We start recognising the subtle details in the mods that were performed or the parts used in the build.

I honestly I'm not a fan of what is going on and wish they would save that money and put it towards making my components better, instead of flashier or worse(like that SSD from Kingston that overheats because it has too many LEDs)

regarding the use of RGB...i agree on associating it with underglow for cars...its basically the same purpose...pure aesthetics and no performance bump...

my build has RGB but its not overdone...just the RAM, top corner of the board, and the chassis fans are....the GPU has a white led for the words of the model of the card itself...not anywhere else...so thats kool just to highlight the card if you have a case with a glass side panel.

when u spend a certain amount of money on high end PC parts u tend to naturally take some kinda pride with your equipment...not everything with neons are tacky...there are also clean car audio installs with lighting that look very classy...thats what PC lights were meant to be used for...but blame the user for the non matching lighting that just makes it look like a car show vehicle gone wrong

I think this weekend is EVO 2019

@casper
I take pride in all my builds. The price of the parts doesn't affect that.
For me, form usually follows function, and the only function LEDs provide me is to burn unnecessary energy to provide lights I do not need . They could save that money and give me another USB port, better fan design, better cooler etc.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13391/the-kingston-hyperx-fury-rgb-ssd-review

Just like plain and simple; but it is getting more and more difficult to find.

On another note. Any AIO water cooler users in here... What has been your experience to date?

Used corsair on my first build. But after a couple months the pump went caput.

After that it was custom water cooling

I primarily use NZXT Kraken coolers (about 4 of em).
No issues so far.

As for RGB, I love ALLLLLLLLLL.

I second, nzxt kraken x62 is hands down one of the best coolers (best looking as well) and my current choice of AIO.

nah i didnt say build...i said equipment...if im building anything i take pride in it as well. i was referring to the prices relating to the larger bump in performance of some of the PC equipment nowadays going into your case. when you spending like $400 USD on a processor and $600 + US on a GPU...u kinda tend to want to highlight the system a little with some nice subtle, tasty and classy lighting....just as with car audio equipment as well....i wont put lighting to highlight a system with a Boss amp...but if i'm using like high end JL or Focal stuff then yea i'd do a little lighting...same with a PC build...i dunno thats just me

if im using entry level parts on a PC build i wont get into lighting neither...will just keep it plain and simple...stepping into the realm where you go top tier performance then yea...would throw in a couple lighting because i know in this case the lighting isnt form over function...in the lower end build with both examples i mentioned with the boss amp and the entry level PC parts the lighting wouldve been form over function...in the example with JL amps and higher end PC parts it wouldnt be...dunno how else to explain what i meant...understand?

and this is why i afraid to go aio or water cooling for that matter...

3 things can go wrong in an aio vs only 1 with an air cooler..with water cooling you have to worry about the hose detaching or leaking, the pump stops working, or the radiator seals leaking as well..gotta have afterburner on at all times to make sure your temps at a safe level cuz u wont really know when the pump might stop work.

with air cooling u get a visual indication of the 1 issue that can cause temperature issues on the cpu...if the fan stops spin...and thats it...was looking to go aio when i was building my system but after researching so many of them i saw some still had reviews of hoses detaching etc...not good if your a type of person to leave your system on all the time...

i ended up going with a noctua air cooler because it had the best reviews and was head on with cooling vs even the kraken aios...the technology behind noctua's fan and heatsink design is really something special...wouldve honestly preferred if they werent brown and cream tho but....performance over aesthitics in this case as theyre alot more better looking air coolers out there that doesnt even come close to their ability to cool

also had an aio cooler at one point, it never leaked but the pump is always the first thing to go it seems
went back to air, not as pretty but those Cryorigs do a decent job of keeping temps down

AIOs have steadily increased in quality over the last few years that leaks aren't really a problem, unless you get a defective one from the factory. I leave mine on all the time.
Aside from the odd fan issue, I haven't had a single problem in over 2 years.

Understood with regards to the RGB.

On the other hand if I can make a boss amp and audiopipe sub sound like JL I would highlight it to... But I understand what you are saying.

In response to the water cooling.
