I take the thickness of the wood,say 3/4 inch and cater for another 3/4 inch of plaster so 1 1/2 " to 1 3/4" x 1/4" hit-its. The 1/4" concrete bits can drill the wood too so no need to drill the wood and then change bits for the concrete. Drill as straight and clean as possible so that the hole doesnt open wider than the bit. Put in the anchor ,hit in the nail and you're done.
A good trick is to remove the nail, hit in the anchor, then replace the nail and hit it in. When you try it you'll see how easy it works. Plus they are very cheap.

I've seen some guys not have he body all the way down so when the nail went it the head of the body actually broke off

I have a tool board with tools for pulling chassis ,installed with hit its, you would never believe the weight it's holding up.

You can also hold the nail from the side with a pliers and hit the pliers with a hammer thereby driving the shank all the way in. Then hit the nail.

Depends on the type of tile ceramic or porcelain, the design you would like, and the size you want. Different places usually have sale going on, and when I was looking I was getting 2x3 ceramic tiles as low as $80 and 2x4 ceramic at $120, but the pattern that I liked the most was $145. You need to check the different places in your area, I from central so I checked about 8 places from chaguanas to couva, but the main places I checked was tile depot, tile warehouse, tile expression and classic tiles. I ended up going with granite from tile warehouse

I going to tell you something that might sound funny. Use urethane, the one they use to install Windscreen. It won't ever let go, and doesn't get mildew like silicone. Run a bead ,rest the sink on it. Next day tape around the sink and then the granite . Leave a 1/4 inch gap between them and run a thin bead ,smoothen it with a finger or a wet cloth. It looks like a gasket and will never fail. I did sinks fifteen years and they still look perfect.

It comes in caulk application as well?

It's a cartridge that uses a gun to apply. When it's opened it gets hard, so when you use it make sure to leave an inch outside to seal the cartridge.

Anyone with ductless under cabinet range hoods can give any advice in terms of operation, mounting, brand? Is it worth it?

If you have the option to do the external vent ,it's better, but the ductless works well. The trick is to keep it clean. The grease filter is very important. GE and Whirlpool works good, reasonably priced and parts available.
