Looking to do a poll to see what other young couples (married or not) work for and what they can afford in terms of housing.

Right now, I'm willing to bet only 5% of the couples under 30 can afford a house costing $1.5M.

anyone saw Republic Bank's ad last week with mortgages? The smallest figure was $800K which had a deposit of $80K (10%) a qualifying income of $14K and a mortgage of $5K per month for 25 years that's the base most person's/couples need to work with

That's providing you have no car loans, credits cards and other debts etc.....qualifying salary goes up once you factor those in.

yup, because your total indebtedness must not exceed 40% (or is it 50%?) of your monthly gross income....
