Winter is coming!

Summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime, but in one week the wait that has sometimes felt as long as both will be history as Game of Thrones makes its series premiere on HBO - between now and then, tide yourselves over with our exclusive preview of the first few scenes of the episode, embedded below. Fans have long imagined how these events from the book would be translated to the screen - what do you think?

The book (the first two at least) will make for some great television.

It's not the same type of fantasy as Lord of the Rings, with elves and orcs and magic entities running around. It has a lot more to do with medieval politics, as rival factions feud for control of the throne. There's a definite element of supernatural fantasy, but it doesn't play a major role in the first season.

HBO took down the video and put up an official version. I fixed my post accordingly.

It's definitely on the HBO that the North American viewers get. I doubt it airs on the Latin American crap Flow gives us (would hate to watch it with hardcoded Spanish subtitles :?).

Anyone know a store that have the book in stock?

Runes in LCM definitely has all. RIK has some, doh know if they have all.

I only read the first two, but I had the 3rd and 4th sitting down there. Think I'll give them a read now.

As for the show itself: Excellent. They got almost every aspect right and the story feels like it was made for the screen. I eh watching any more until the season done.

Trust me...the best is yet to come.

The only thing I think they didn't get perfect is that consummation scene between Drogo and Daenerys. In the book it was less rape-ish. The emphasis of the scene in the book is when he touched her cheek and said no. That relieved plenty of her fears and made her realise he was more than a savage. She was still nervous, but less frightened.
I doh know if someone who didn't read the books woulda pick that up watching that scene, even though the caress was still there.

Otherwise...perfect.

Well RIK in Trincity Mall and Grand Bazaar doesn't have any of the books, lol. Looks like I'll need to journey down to LCM.

So since it doesn't depend on much magic, they save a lot on special effects? :-)

They will need whatever they save for the last two or so episodes.

Tyrion is the best character in the books too, hands down.
