does the gopro turn on automatically and start recording ?

also dashcams record in vids of a few mins each then roll to another recording
so if you need to search the files are smaller to check.
likewise when the memory card is full it deletes the oldest file

i have a g1w from amazon, working good so far

Nope lol it doesnt
The gopro isnt designed to be a dashcam, i just use it cause i had it as an extra camera and Im just suggesting it as an alternative.

A proper dash cam would be better than the gopro :) more features and such .

I'm currently using the TaoTronics 1080p Wide Angle Cam, working great so far and its a pretty good price

http://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-1080P- ... 1_1&sr=8-1

Later I will try and upload some day and night footage

It is 150 degree,
150degree is about the max one should go
I had a dashcam before the g1w which was 170,
Much too distorted .

I think I mentioned this somewhere in another thread (cant find it now) but where possible, go with the capacitor version of the camera if available.

The G1W and the B40/A118 lines all have battery and capacitor versions. The batteries die very quickly in our heat (esp in your parked car). The capacitors last much longer. The only downsides are that they can't record for long without the power cable, and they a bit more expensive.

For the money those 2 cameras are really good and the best bang for the buck, with the G1W-C being cheaper, but the B40 or A118 having a more discreet form factor.

Had a battery equipped dashcam before and the battery failed after 8 months (and my car is park in covered garages at home and work). Bought the G1W-C and its been well over a year without issues.

And check http://www.dashcamtalk.com for reviews, comparisons and footage.

Blackvue dash cams are pricey but they are really good quality and get great reviews

Ring has a dash cam now
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LZFPQNV/

I guess the price is comparable. I thought these would have dropped in price by now.
