Point highway restarts next month

Construction on all portions of the San Fernando to Point Fortin highway will begin by the end of next month.

This, according to Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan who spoke to reporters while on a tour of Package 2A of the project. Sinanan said 2A runs from Bamboo Junction La Romaine to the first bridge on the Mosquito Creek, a 2.2 km stretch. “One of the major aspects of this that we are looking forward to is that actually starting the phase from Point Fortin coming back to San Fernando, we expect an award to be made on that contract in the next week,” he said.

“So what we will have is work on both ends of this highway, we will have work starting from Point Fortin and work starting from San Fernando continuing and the creek should be awarded shortly- so we will have work on both ends and in the centre.”

Sinanan said the project had been divided into several packages and the total cost was $91million.

Any muddacount word about the bridge in Debe Trace, Debe?

I think I mentioned it before but these cacaholes have the entire southbound of the highway filtering into a ONE lane bridge.
And to make things better, this ONE lane has to cater for the entire southbound who is heading to Penal/Siparia/Erin, as well as
those from there who are heading to the northbound.

(While the concrete for the new wider bridge collecting moss on the side years now)

http://www.guardian.co.tt/news/2018-03- ... -extension

Project manager of National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Nidco) Earl Wilson says the inclement weather is to blame for the delay in the completion of Package 2A of the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin.

During a site visit on Saturday, Wilson said that once rain falls, the job has to shut down. He said the estimated finish time has shifted to the end of May.

Package 2A, which entails the widening of the South Trunk Road between Dumfries Road, La Romaine and the Mosquito Creek bridge, was expected to be completed last month.

While most of the work has been completed, contractor Junior Sammy Ltd were still constructing a roundabout at Dumfries Road, a retaining wall and fortifying drainage that were previously done by dismissed Brazilian contractor, Construtora OAS.

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan said the invitation for tender for the Mosquito Creek portion will be closed this week and a contractor will be selected soon.

Serious?!

A round about is only good if the exit from the round about is clear. Until the rest of the high way ate the creek and othatheitie is complete, they should leave the lights. Cause when the traffic can't move forward, people who want to pass through the roundabout towards a different road will get blocked out causing traffic on the other roads.

little blast from the past

January 1968. Looking east along the Mosquito creek, San Fernando hill prominent
in the distance.

Where is all the road traffic? There is not a car to be seen on the road.

Today you would have to stand here in the middle of the night or during a very
high tide with flooding to achieve such a moment of tranquillity at this location.

The roundabout is open T the Coca-Cola lights.

They are doing work on it right now to complete it.

I say, that roundabout is a bad idea. Other than an inter change, the lights was second best.
When the work on the creek finishes, that will pull traffic well. The roundabout would become a choke point

Agreed... Mon Repos roundabout on evenings is a classic example.

I guess an overpass there isn't feasible?

When u really take on Mon ripos, the traffic from St Joseph to continue south is only really hampered by the traffic out of sando into cocoyea. Stop the cross flow from sando to cocoyea and Mon ripos free. If u could get the cocoyea traffic to stop it could empty the bypass better. Could try the traffic lights there and see if it help.

The roundabout by South Park there, the traffic out of sando to the highway is the major obstacle.

I could justify an over pass to accommodate a direct lane out of sando to the highway... Like grand bazaar West to South.

Agreed, that cocoyea traffic is a real scene. Keeps back everything on evenings, i don't think we can do much there unless there is an overpass above the roundabout from north to south/south to north.

Don't talk about that south park roundabout. That made sense like 25 years ago... should have been an overpass instead of a roundabout back in 2013... there is land to do it.

Surprised they never expanded the bypass road between the Marabella and South Park Roundabout from a 2 lane dual to a 4 lane dual carriageway.

If I spin this evening I will try to post it.
