A 22-year-old man who was detained and beaten about the body by a couple he and another man had earlier robbed on Tuesday night in Tunapuna has been discharged from hospital.
The suspect, police said, was released from the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope on Thursday and taken to the La Horquetta Police Station.
He is expected to be placed on a series of identification parades over the weekend in connection with other armed robberies within the Northern Division, police said.
Officers said once the identification parades are completed, the suspect will be charged with common assault, possession of a firearm, assault with intent to rob and robbery with aggravation in relation to the El Dorado, Tunapuna, robbery.
He was pointed out to police officers by the victims as one of the assailants who had earlier robbed them before being whisked away by police.
The suspect, who is from Abercromby Street, St Joseph, sustained a dislocated arm and several lacerations about the body after he was beaten by the victims and residents who captured him after the robbery.
At that time the suspect wrestled with the victims as he attempted to make his escape from their clutches at Clementy Street, El Dorado, Tunapuna.
Residents in the area came to the assistance of the couple and dealt the suspect several blows about the body, warning him never to return to their community.
Detectives Pereira and Antoine of the Tunapuna CID and other police officers also responded to the report and took the suspect into custody. In the presence of the residents, police searched the suspect and found an empty .22 pistol tucked in his waist. Officers said an arrest is imminent for the other suspect.
The couple reported to police that around 9.40 p.m. they were seated inside their vehicle along Back Street Extension, El Dorado, when two men approached the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and announced a hold-up.
One of them was armed with a gun, while the other had a knife. The woman was relieved of two gold bracelets valued $2,800 and, as the men attempted to escape, one of them was challenged by the male victim.
He was later chased by the victim in his vehicle along Sergeant Street and, in an attempt to run to the Priority Bus Route, the suspect was knocked down by the vehicle and thrown into a drain along Clementy Street.
