starting things
.....been wearing glasses 10 years give or take a couple mnths. Ive been to a few optomotrists but havent decided on a flawless service/product frm any.

currently have the Ray Ban in the pic below
Image

IMO they're heavy, brittle [i broke them 6mnths after the purchase :? ] and a bit costly.

Bought them at "Optomotrists Today" it was my first with them, however, inside of my lenses have become spotted and scratches very easily [After 1yr]. I put them through a lot but the lenses from "Ferreira's Opt..." held out much better.

It really depends on what the problem with your eyes is. I think mine are probably the most expensive. Acuvue Oasis Astigmatism. Diff prescription for each eye so had to buy two boxes of 6. Total was less than 600.

I had broken my glasses and for a while all I used was contacts but apparently I was overusing them and they advised me to cut back and I bought a pair of http://www.bestbuyeyeglasses.com/nike-n ... 03033.html and got another pair of safety glasses for work.

Now, the convenience of just throwing on my glasses I hardly use the contacts but having full peripheral vision is nice with the contacts.

i was thinking bout getting contacts but i don't like the idea of taking them out an touching your eyes ... introducing bacteria in the eye cavity .... :(

I've been wearing glasses for 7 years.

Tried contacts, were great at first except for actually getting them in but I got too comfortable with them and developed a small rash in one eye also used to fall asleep with them when I was really tired and would awake half blind.

I used the Acuvue Oasys Astigmatism that I sourced from the same people I got tested with locally and the price was very much reasonable when compared to buying online. I had to use 2 diff prescriptions so my two boxes came up to between $500 and $600.

Currently have an Eye Q frame that I got at a place in St. Anns, best prices I've seen locally on frames thus far. Light, reasonably strong and flexible for those moments when you forget 'em on and put strain on them. Only downside is people call them "the Ian Alleyne frames".

Tried ordering a Rayban online at a point in time but specs differ between brands which led to me buying the incorrect size. Shopping locally is hell because of the size of my cabeza.

Best advice to anyone looking for glasses. Get your prescription and shop around, ask ahead of actually paying for the prescription if you can get the specs without paying an additional amount.

If buying online try on the same model frame or at least the same brand locally before clicking on the checkout button and ensure you know your specs.

Best setup I ever had was the Nike FlexOn with a transition lens installed by Ben Bodingtons in PoS.

There is supposedly a different exam for contacts than glasses. To me all they did was pour some kinda dye into my eyes to look for pitting or damage but other than that it was the same as a normal exam. Plus when you do the exam you get a pair of trial lenses to try out. So, if ya interested in contacts then go ahead and do that.

Also, if you have a serious dislike of putting anything near your eyes, as I did, you may get some problems putting them in. With time I got accustomed and can put them on in under a minute. At first I was takin 15-30 mins to put them on..

You should look into plastic frames where the "pad" is built into the frame, it also gets rid of that nasty build up you get inside the pads where you have to get new pads which can often look retarded as not often there are specific replacements for frames.

Also, you should ensure that when buying a frame it is properly sized. It wasn't until my 3rd glasses I was properly measured. Before I used to simply go and pick something that looked decent that can rest on my nose and touch my ear.
